* Lesson: What are 5 areas in marketing most people
overlook?
1. Not marketing enough is the most overlooked area.
Most
businesses only do one form of marketing, unique to them. But
"one" is a recipe for disaster. They should do everything
they
can think of, from direct mail, to radio and TV ads, to speaking,
writing, networking, Internet-ing, etc.
2. Not cross-promoting is another overlooked area.
Every
business, no matter what it is, can create alliances with other
businesses that serve the came market. That doesn't mean
bond with your competitors. That means ask yourself what
other businesses serve the same prospects you do. Then
join with them to mutually help each other.
3. Not having a unique selling proposition is a
major
overlooked area. Any business that wants to stay in business
has to differentiate themselves from the crowd. What is unique
about your business? State it in one line to create a unique
selling statement that works for you.
4. Not working with the media is another overlooked
area.
The media is starving for stories. Feed them what they want.
Just don't send them ads, send them news. Look in your business
and find the stories others might want to know about. I've seen
businesses get rich and famous from a single well-placed news
story. Help the media and they'll help you.
5. Not delegating is another overlooked area. Businesses
that fail are run by people who try to do it all. They read one book
on copywriting and then try to write a sales letter. They read one
book on accounting and try to balance their books. Know what
you are good at and do it. Know what you are not good at and
get others to do it. This is marketing that get results.

* Question: Someone wrote me and asked how the average
person prefers to read e-books: Online or printed out?
My answer is, of course, it depends.
I find myself reading short works online, but longer
works
printed out.
I have no problem with short articles and emails
on my
screen. But full-length books---100 pages or more---make
me weary to read online. I prefer to print them and read
them wherever I like. I'm guessing most people do the same.
When I want to print something out but don't want
to wear
out my printer, I send the file by email to http://www.kinkos.com
They will print, bind, and even deliver the e-book to me. It's
simply another way to be efficient.

the Internet.
Very innocent emails and e-zines are being blocked
by filters
that mindlessly reject anything containing the wrong words or
phrases in them. There is little you can do about this (that I'm
aware of right now) except to delete the known trigger words
from your outgoing email.

look forward to reading each week. One of them is for copywriters
