News You Can Use - July, 2002
What will be the next big trend
to hit the Internet? (The answer
may surprise you---almost as much as it frustrates me.) Where
can you learn about the hypnotic writer who taught me how to
write hypnotically? And what's the most riveting new book on
how to get massive publicity to hit the streets in decades?
Read this month's heart-pumping new issue of "News You
Can Use!" and brace yourself for all the exciting answers---
and much, much more! -- Joe Vitale
"I would like the reader to keep this
in mind throughout:
You are bigger than you think you are, capable of more
than you imagine." -- Robin Waterfield, "Hidden Depths:
The Story of Hypnosis"

Truly amazing. "Spiritual Marketing" stayed
on
the amazon.com best-seller list far longer than
I ever expected. It spent most of June 4 climbing
the charts. It hit #1 that night. It stayed there all
the next day. Later on the 5th it very s-l-o-w-l-y
dropped to number 5. When I went to bed, it
was #9 and holding strong. The next morning,
it barely moved at all. It was still a best-seller.
The facts are startling. There was a 45,000%
increase in sales for the book on June 4th.
It's the first amazon best-seller for 1stbooks.com,
the print-on-demand (POD) publisher for my book.
It's also the first-ever print-on-demand book to
land the #1 overall spot on Amazon in history.
It stayed on the "Amazon Top 100" list
for 3 days.
It was still in the Top 300 on Friday, June 7th.
And on Saturday the 8th it started climbing again.
Later that afternoon it hit number 238 in sales rank.
On Sunday it jumped backed up to the Top 200.
On Wednesday, June 12, it hit the Top 100 AGAIN.
Out of 2,000,000 books for sale, that's awesome.
I estimate 5,000 copies of the book were sold---
all by e-mail marketing.
For a book I never even wanted to publish, this
is
truly remarkable. If you somehow missed getting
the book, it's still for sale at http://www.amazon.com
And thank you for making it a #1 best-seller! -
Joe :)
Note: Did you receive access to the $300 in freebies?
Some people didn't. I used an autoresponder for the
service, and learned later AOL sometimes blocks them.
At any rate, if you ordered my book on 6-4-02 or 6-5-02
and did not get access to the bonuses, just forward your
amazon receipt to joe@mrfire.com
and I'll personally
email you the access information you need.

* Someone wrote me last month asking how I manage
to
put together such info-packed newsletters every month.
I wrote back saying---
"Every month I think, 'I'm not going
to send out a newsletter
next month. I have nothing to say.' But as the days click by,
someone alerts me to a cool website, or I stumble across a
phenomenal new book, or I think of a relevant story to tell, or
someone writes me....like you just did...with a great question
that leads to a useful answer. Each newsletter simply grows.
I open a file, call it "July '02" or whatever is next, and
begin
tossing news in it. By the end of the month, I have a newsletter.
It's really as simple as that."
And that's how *this* newsletter ended up on your
screen. :)
* Heads up: E-mail filters may be keeping your email
from
reaching people---even if people asked for your email. I just
learned Microsoft Office has a strict filtering system that users
can activate. Once they do, it screens all incoming mail. If your
email contains any of about two dozen trigger words or symbols
---such as "free" or "money-making"---it will
automatically delete
your email. It will never be read. (Which means this very newsletter
may not make it to some readers.) See the list of triggers here:
http://office.microsoft.com/Assistance/9798/newfilters.aspx
* Free: Tired of struggling to build a real success?
Life could
be helping you instead of blocking your moves. Learn how. Sign
up for the e-mail course "BEYOND LUCK - The 20-Day Boot
Camp in Building Success & Good Fortune." It's free. You'll
get
an email every other day for about 40 days. I love it. You will, too.
The very first email alone got me thinking out of the box. Just
send an e-mail to 20day112@quicktell.net
* Discovery: If you've read many of my books, you
know
I'm a major fan and loyal disciple of Robert Collier, the famed
self-help writer who just happened to be a legendary copywriter,
too. He was a hypnotic writer. His writings helped teach me to
write with clarity and power. He also wrote the most famous
copywriting book of all time: "The Robert Collier Letter Book."
His grand-daughter just put a site online for him, complete with
information on many of his lesser known books. Go see
http://www.RobertCollierPublications.com
* My hero, Mark Joyner, just put up a site that may
shock you---
but don't let that stop you from visiting it. He's a guru, a guide,
and a god when it comes to Internet marketing. And his site
is right here at http://www.mindcontrolmarketing.com
* Speaking of Mark, he also has me excited about
a new
program he's in. If you missed my emailed alert on it, go
here now and join now: http://joevitale.cashevolution.com
I can't stress enough how important it is that you join now.
With Mark and me promoting the living delights out of this
new program, you can't help but benefit. Go join right now.
(We haven't even begun the heavy promotions yet, so you
can still get in and benefit from our combined efforts.)

* If you're having trouble getting the price you
want, you need
a new book packed with tips and insights to stop you from
ever lowering your price again. You're worth what you ask for,
aren't you? Go see http://www.howtogetthepriceyouwant.com
* Italian update: My request last month for suggestions
on
how I could learn to speak Italian quick brought more response
than anything I've done in a long, long time.
One person sent me a tape program on the language,
for free.
Many offered tips on how to fake knowing Italian, such as opening
my mouth bigger than normal and waving my hands a lot. (!)
The coolest idea came from a nun in Rome, who said:
"Dear Joe...go to an old age home and
find a little
old Italian man...bring him a bottle of wine and the
two of you will be speaking before you know it!!..."
Thank you! I'll try that one ASAP. :)
* Service lesson: I'm really tired of businesses
who make
wild claims and don't live up to them. For example---
I invested several hundred dollars in a wireless
device called
Blackberry. It's advertised as the "Always on, always connected"
way to get your email. I believe wireless marketing is the next
big trend, and I want to pioneer it. So I bought a Blackberry and
could not wait to get it in my hands and use it at the pool.
Well, it arrived and the cute little device couldn't
pick up a
signal here in the country. I could accept that. After all, I do live
in the woods. Nerissa and I couldn't even get a television station
signal here until she invested in a satellite dish for us.
So I drove into San Marcos, the nearest "big"
city to us.
No signal there, either.
Now I'm really disappointed.
I emailed the Blackberry offices and asked for help.
They took
an entire day to reply and told me to contact my Internet service
provider. So much for great service.
I emailed my service provider and asked for help
on getting
coverage in my area. They took an entire day to reply and
said to go look at the coverage map online. Well, I had already
done that, and the map suggests service near me. Of course,
the map is wrong.
I called customer service and asked where I COULD
get a
signal. Austin, maybe? Nope. There's only "spotty" coverage
there. And Austin is the capital of Texas. (!)
Looks like the closest city for me to get wireless
email
"any time, any place" is San Antonio---about 70 miles away.
Sheesh. As much as I like San Antonio, I rarely go there.
By now I'm heart-broken, disillusioned, disappointed,
and
really miffed. The ads for Blackberry were greatly deceiving.
The service from them was a joke. With little other choice,
I sadly packed up my new techie toy and returned it.
I still believe wireless is the next trend. I still
believe there's
a handheld wireless email device out there for me---one that
will even work here in the Texas Hill Country---but I don't believe
businesses have to lie, mislead, or deceive to make sales.
Let it be a lesson to all of us: Shoot straight
with your
customers and they'll do business with you. People are tired
of being deceived. People are tired of lousy service. People
will leave you in a heartbeat and never return again. They aren't
going to take it anymore.
Blackberry, wake up.
The rest of us, let's serve and get rich.
Resource: The number of world wide mobile Internet
users
is expected to reach 934 million by 2007. If you want to get
excited about the potential of wireless marketing, too, read
a great book called "Wireless Rules" by Frederick Newell.
An even newer book is "Going Wireless" by Jaclyn Easton.
(The latter is my current favorite. Great writing. Great stories.)
You can probably order both wirelessly from amazon.com ---
if you have the right device.
Note: Since writing the above rant, I've experimented
with
several wireless devices. One night I saw a commercial on
television for the brand new Nokia 9290 Communicator.
I bolted straight up in my chair as I watched the cool mobile
phone open up, revealing a keyboard I could use to browse
the Internet, get and send email, watch video, and much more.
I went to CompUSA, saw the device on display, and bought it.
I *love* it. The other night there was a big storm here. Yet I
sat on the sofa with my new wireless toy and sent and received
email. Somehow my messages got through the thunder, clouds,
rain, and lightning. I'm astonished. We live in miraculous times.

* Reason to celebrate: P.T. Barnum was born on July
5, 1810.
You can get my book on his business secrets from amazon.
It's called "There's a Customer Born Every Minute."
It was an amazon best-seller---#33---two years ago.
* How Much Joy Can You Stand? Sometimes the only
thing
stopping you from reaching your goals is the fear of feeling TOO
good when you get there. Check out this empowering resource
and the inspiring new book by Suzanne Falter-Barns.

* From overseas: "Improperganda: The Art of
the Publicity Stunt"
is a roller-coaster ride through the wildest, bizarest, funniest and
cleverest stunts by the likes of P.T. Barnum, Harry Reichenbach,
Jim Moran and other off-the-wall publicists. Hard to read because
of the tiny type but the oversized pictures are stunning. As one
news service said, "Don't give me news---give me stories."
Here are some wild ones. Visit http://www.borkowski.co.uk

* At last: I waited months for this book to come
out. I heard
about it and *knew* I wanted it, knew it would be incredible,
and knew you would want it, too. I'm talking about the best book
on how to get publicity---an astonishing amount of it, too---to hit
the book stores in a long, long time.
It's by Mark Mathis and titled "Feeding the
Media Beast."
The writing grabbed me, the insights cracked open my brain,
and the methods work. I tell you, just get this one. If you are at
all interested in an easy recipe for getting great publicity,
go get this book right now. It's remarkable.
The author's website is at http://wwww.mathismedia.com
Publisher is Purdue University: http://www.thepress.purdue.edu
I bought my copy from --of course-- http://www.amazon.com
* Nerissa and I often watch television late at night.
I'm always
commenting on certain commercials that I find good, or bad.
She told me I ought to tell you which ones I really like. Since I
think she's a smart woman, I'll take that advice.
The commercials I like best these days are all done
to sell
PowerAde, a sports drink. The ads are always an authentic
looking sports situation, such as a tennis court or a basketball
court, but the actions certain players make are super human.
The other night we were watching "Whose Line
Is It, Anyway?,"
(my favorite show). Suddenly we were looking at a tennis court
with two players, one getting ready to serve the ball. We froze.
We thought maybe the TV screwed up and switched channels.
But the screen was somehow riveting. We were waiting to see
what happened next. With a blast, one of the players hit the
tennis ball and smashed it---and I mean SMASHED it---into
the ground and into bits. The ad ended with the picture and
logo for PowerAde.
I *love* these commercials. They grab your attention.
They
are exaggerated to such a point that you *wish* they were
true. And they *embed* their product name into your memory.
Whew! Anyone who can write ads like that should
get
a raise -- and a lifetime supply of PowerAde, to boot.
Get more details at http://www.powerade.com
Note: To actually see the PowerAde ads---or any
ads you
might have heard about or seen part of on television---go

particularly if you like commercials more than TV shows.)

the free ebooks at http://www.magicsearchwords.com

for what you want online. Read his easy to follow books
and find the resources you need to achieve your goals.
* Trivia: What's an ancient example of wise marketing?
In the second century BC, Romans built health spas.
Merchants made and sold soap, which people bought.
But the Gauls in France did not enjoy bathing. So they
didn't want any soap. What did the Romans do? They
sold their soap to the Gauls as a laxative.
"This may be one of the earliest forms
of creative
marketing - 'It's a soap - and - it's a laxative!'"
From "The Golden Milestone: Over 2,500 Years
of Italian
Contributions to Civilization" by Russell Esposito. (A truly
fascinating book.) See http://www.nylearninglibrary.com
* Finally, I have had many mentors over the last
few decades.
One has helped me more than others. He is one of the most
successful freelance writers alive. He has helped me, and
numerous others, without ever expecting any return. I just
learned that this same man went through a stroke, at the
age of 44. Fortunately, he's recovered, and he's written a
wonderful book about gratitude. I'm talking about Bob Bly.
And his new book inspired and delighted me while making
me feel glad for the little things in my life. Please read it.
Share it with others. Give it as gifts to strangers on the street.
It's called, "Count Your Blessings." Order at www.amazon.com
