Announcing -- The Next Hot Trend on the Net

Dear Friend,

Just last night I saw a hilarious—but sadly revealing—TV commercial.

It showed an elderly woman trying to learn sign language over the Internet. She had a neighbor who had a deaf child. This woman wanted to talk to the child. So she went online to watch sign language being demonstrated on web video.

The problem was, she couldn't easily see the video. It "jumped," wasn't clear, and was hard to watch. But the woman did her best to learn sign language through it.

She then baked a pie. She went next door with the pie, handed it to the deaf child, and then moved her hands in sign language to talk to the child.

At that point the child dropped the pie and ran.

Why? What the woman had communicated—through her poor hand signals---was the line, "I baked your dog for you."

No doubt that's a worse case scenario of the consequences of bad video online. (Let's hope!).

The thing is, videos are the coming thing. You're going to see more and more of them online. But if you don't watch out, you won't make customers, you'll LOSE them!

But that's just the tip of a very big iceburg.

You may soon go to a website, click on the video button, and sit back and watch a type of "E-fomercial"—sister to the infomercial and brother to the advertorial.

By the end of the year, you and I and virtually everyone online will be able to see video online as easily as clicking your remote to watch a TV show.

And more and more businesses are going to put video brochures online, video interviews, video product demos, and who knows what video-else they'll create.

Want solid proof this will be the next trend?

* There are now more videos online this year than last
* There are more video based sites sprouting up daily
* Windows brought back their "VideoMaker" editing software
* The MAC comes with iMovie already installed
* Sony has a new video products division for children
* Speilberg now offers "Legos Studios" to kids for video making
* You can now download free video editing software online

And the list doesn't stop there!

* Satellite is bringing high-speed net access to even rural areas
* E-brochures are new emails with video embedded in them
* E-pop-ups are sites with pop-up messages, now with video
* You can now put web video on CD-ROM sized business cards
* George Lucas now supports an online film school for teens
* You can now download DVD quality films in less than 30 minutes

* As I was writing this very newsletter, I heard from a
man online who runs his own weekly web video show.

* And Microsoft teamed up with Lazy Boy to create a
recliner you can relax in and watch TV AND websites on!
(It comes with web connections, keyboard and a mouse rest!)

Can you smell a new trend blowing your way?

But also keep this in mind:

Just because you keep up with the technology doesn't mean you'll persuade anyone. Video requires its own psychology of persuasion. It's real easy to make them boring, hard to watch, hard to download, or totally void of any selling power. Just look at many of the TV commercials and web videos airing right now and you'll see what I mean. Many of them simply don't make any sense let alone sell anything.

Yet video is one of the best ways for adding emotion to your product or your service!

What I suggest is you get on the video band-wagon NOW. If you have a video, or a CD-ROM, have a professional review it. If you want video on your site, again, get a professional.

Who do I recommend for this service?

Well, that's a secret. But I've found a former feature film editor, creative video editor, and instructor, now turned freelance consultant. She is available to review your existing video, or web video, or even CD-ROM, give a detailed analysis of it, and offer content and technical suggestions for improving it. If you want your videos to work, you need to hire her.

Here's what she wrote me:

"Video on the web—short commercials, teaser videos, longer infomercials, traditional longer program-videos—IS the next trend.

"There is a staggering number of people and businesses that are creating and compressing their own video content for their web sites. Most have no previous video knowledge. But videos are tricky, especially when it comes to the current technical limitations of the web. And people still want and need to be entertained. Visual stimulation is as necessary to the web as it is to TV."

If you want her to critique your existing web video or CD-ROM---or critique it *before* you put it on your website---keep reading!

She'll look at your video from the viewer's standpoint---Is it audible and visble enough, does it flow, does it persuade, does it grab attention and keep it, what hidden messages is it sending with its choice of narrator / music / spokesperson / graphics?—and more!

She'll also look at your video from a production standpoint--- scripting, visual content, editing, audio, and even digital compression. Her feedback can save you a bundle of money, and help you use a web video that actually helps you MAKE money.

And now I have something extra to juice up this offer for you:

*I* will also look at your video----the one you have, the one you have online, or the one you want to put online---and I will analyze it from a marketing standpoint.

I will review it with an eye to the hidden elements within it that either persuade or bomb. For example, I'll look to see if it contains a clear USP, follows the AIDA formula, and appeals to the subconscious motivations in your prospects.

In short, for one fair price, you will get TWO professionals reviewing your video from every conceiveable viewpoint.

You can send the video to us. We will write a report on it and send it back to you. You can then use this information to repair your video and improve it so you get the results you want.

All of this BEFORE the next big Internet trend hits!

Look. You're probably thinking you can handle this video business yourself. Maybe so.

But consider---

- How many videos have you created?
- How many have you edited?
- How many have you put online?
- How many videos have you seen get results?
- How many broadcast quality films, documentaries,
commericals, or corporate videos have you made?

My partner and I have the experience you may lack and may need.
