How do you search newspapers to find out if they've printed your name, or run your news releases, or promoted you in any way, shape, or form? Read on and discover a new secret for media searches.

* My good friend Paul Krupin, who runs the publicity news bureaus that I use and recommend, just added a nifty new service to his bag of tricks. Just give him your name (or your product or service's name) and he can do a media search on it, pulling up every article that contains those names.

This is the equivalent of hiring a "clipping service" to hunt down and retrieve every article that ever mentioned you. This is different than a web search, which would just search the Internet. Paul's service will actually search articles online and off to turn up what you want, AND you will get to see all the articles, as well. He'll deliver them right to you.

This is a great way to track results, to see if your news releases are getting covered, and to even pin-point editors friendly to your news releases so you can go back to them, direct, with more news ideas.

This is also fun! Paul showed me how his search worked by typing in my name. Back came half a meg of articles with the name "Joe Vitale" in them. Most were about me, and many were articles I never knew saw the light of the day. It was flattering to see my name in Investor's Daily, Success magazine, Home-Office Computing magazine, major newspapers, and the like.

Many other "Joe Vitale's" were clearly not me. I particularly liked the one about the Joe Vitale, now 80, who had to close his vegetable stand to make room for highway improvements. (I wonder how many people thought it was me running a side business.)
