REMINDER: I made $22,500 the very first time I taught an e-class. I taught famed copywriter Yanik Silver my proprietary method for creating e-classes---classes done entirely by e-mail only---and he made $18,298.50 on his first e-class and $11,198.50 on his second. I did the same thing with executive coach Paul Lemberg. He made $16,500 on his first e-class. I taught Tom Pauley my method and he made $22,300 on his first e-class and $25,000 on his second one. I taught John Harricharan this method and he made over $17,000 in one week. ANYONE can teach an e-class and on almost anything. It doesn't matter who you are; it matters what you know. TIP: How long should a sales letter be? In general, the more money you are asking for, the longer the letter. If you are selling a pack of gum, a few words may suffice. If you're selling a plane, you may need a long letter. Don't believe any study that says short copy sells best. It depends on the situation. In general (note I said "in general"), long copy sells better than short copy in virtually every situation, online or off. Don't believe me? Well, if I wrote a longer explanation, I could convince you. But then I'd be writing a long sales letter, wouldn't I? :)

TRUE MARKETING STORY: When the song "How much is that doggie in the window" was a hit in the 1950s, a pet shop and a record store in Australia made a deal that served both. The record store posted a sign reading, "If you want the record, come in here. If you want the dog, he's around the corner." The pet shop posted a similar sign, but in reverse order. The result was win-win marketing for both. (I love it!)

LESSON: How do you get people to do what you want?

I receive about one hundred emails every day. Many of them are from people who want to ask me to do something for them. What amazes me is how they go about it.

One person began his email by declaring he didn't feel I gave enough freebies to him. (He must not be on this regular email list.) He wanted even more bonuses whenever he bought anything from me. He then proceeded to ask me for a favor.

Now I ask you, after telling me what I was doing wrong, do you think I was eager to do him any favors?

Another person wrote me after last month's newsletter, where I described the phenomenal instant success of my #1 best- selling book, "Spiritual Marketing." He was clearly jealous. He began his letter by slamming me for sending out emails that market myself and others. (Well, I'm a marketing person. That's what I do.) He then asked me to help market *his* book!

Again, after he began his email with a negative about me, do you think I agreed to help him?

Yet another time a potential coach called me. He began to tell me how I was living my life wrong, how my website needed improved, and how my business could be better. Now this guy doesn't know me at all. He made a lot of assumptions, all negative, and said them as if they were law. He then asked me to hire him as my personal coach.

Do you think I did?

The answer in all those cases is no, I didn't want to help either person or get help from the third. And the ironic fact is this: I will help virtually anybody who asks. And I'll consider working with anyone who might be able to help me achieve my goals.

So here's your million-dollar tip for the month:

Whenever you want to ask someone to do something for you, begin by creating rapport with them. Beginning an email with a negative breaks rapport. That's *not* how you win friends and influence people. (Re-read Dale Carnegie.)

Hypnotists know this. It's an unquestioned rule that no hypnotist can get you to obey him or her unless they first create rapport with you. You have to like them. You have to trust them. And then you might do what they suggest.

If a hypnotist begins with, "Your eye twitch is making me sick. Let's get you in a trance and get rid of it," chances are you'll resist him. You won't like him.

Again, if you want someone to do something for you, don't begin your request by telling them what they are doing wrong. Begin with sincere praise. From there, your chances of getting what you want are higher.

TIP: Repeat yourself. People online don't seem to pay very close attention to what they read. I once advertised a new e-class and said the fee was $1,500. Twenty people signed up. But when I asked for the money, everyone seemed surprised. Turns out they read "fee" as "free." I'm constantly amazed at people who will read an email and miss important details that were clearly stated. Again, repeat yourself. Don't be afraid to repeat your key points or your key offer. This principle works online as well as off. It's also used in hypnosis. In order for a suggestion to stick, the hypnotist often repeats it. How many times did I just urge you to repeat yourself in your sales letters? Enough for you to remember it---I hope.

* I met best-selling author Robert Allen last October in Vegas. We hit it off, spoke some, and later exchanged some products. One day he sent me an email, asking what my giant goals were so he could help me with them. One of the main ones I shared with him was this:

"I want to create a way for people who have virtually no money to easily start receiving passive income."

I had no idea how that would happen, but that's how it is with big goals: You name them and let them grow.
