My ex-wife was in a near fatal car accident on October 4. She survived with a fractured vertebrae in her lower back. The medical doctors prescribed knock-out pain medication. Alternative medicine said it would take two months to heal. I said no, there has got to be another way.

And -- Congratulations to my dear friend and mentor Mark Joyner for making his book a #1 best-seller at Amazon on October 2. Mark went head to head with Rudolph Giuliani's book for almost 24 hours, but at 7 PM Central "MindControlMarketing.com" knocked Rudy off the #1 throne. Mark made history. Agents, publishers, and the media are now racing to make deals with the now best-selling author.

As a side benefit, my own "Spiritual Marketing" book ---an Amazon #1 best-seller last June 4 and 5---again climbed the charts, hitting 115. It stayed in the Top 200 best-seller list for a couple of days. When there are over 2,000,000 books available, that's astonishing.

How did that happen?

Easy. Two days before Mark's big promotions were to hit, I went to Amazon, looked up Mark's book, and added "Spiritual Marketing" as a recommended book to buy along with his. The strategy clearly worked. When Mark's promotions hit the Internet, people stampeded to Amazon. When they saw his book, they also saw mine. Since they were already in a one-click buying mood, it was very easy for them to add my book to their shopping carts. As a result, win-win-wins for all. Way cool.

And -- Thank you for all the nice e-mails congratulating me on appearing in The New York Times October 17th. (Yes, the article helped sales. TIP: What's the easiest and least expensive way to find out how good your website is?

Easy. Ask a friend who hasn't seen it yet to come over to your computer. Then sit them in front of it and let them go online. Watch them in *total silence* as they browse your site.

If they look confused, your site is confusing. If they act like they don't know what to do, then your site doesn't guide people through it.

Don't think, "Why doesn't he see where to click? Is he an idiot?" but instead think, "I need to fix that so it's clear what to do next."

Remember, don't help the person view your site. Just watch them. You'll then get an education in how the public responds when they visit your site. Take notes---and then fix your website ASAP.

LESSON: How do you market yourself when there are others offering the same type of service as yours?

Let's see...

The Problem: A group of crime writers wanted to get more attention for their work.

The Strategy: Seven of them formed a group called the "Murder Squad."

They made their first public appearance at the opening of a Borders book store. They also printed a full color brochure offering their services for readings, workshops, and talks at book shops, libraries, and festivals.

In short, to separate yourself from the crowd of people offering similar services as yours, you have to do something different.

The best book I've seen on this subject in a long, long time is from England. It's called "Do Something Different: Proven Marketing Techniques to Transform Your Business." It's by Jurgen Wolff, with a brief foreword by the great Barnum-like promoter, Sir Richard Branson.

I loved the book and all the stimulating ideas, case histories, and money-making tips. I strongly urge you to get it to help you out-think (before you have to out-run) your competition.

WARNING: I must get 27 viruses every day. They come in all shapes and sizes, with various intriguing headlines. Just this morning there was one titled "I had a problem ordering from you." Yet another said "Men's Health Tips." And a third said, "Just catching up."

At another point in time I would have opened these messages, thinking I was getting a personal email or an informative tip. Not today. I've already been to virus hell, thank you. Still, I must be on a lot of hit lists.

At any rate, let this be a warning. If you don't know the sender, don't open the attachment. And even if you do know the sender, don't open what they send you unless you are positive it's safe. As a last resort, call the person and ask, "What did you send me?" Better safe than sorry, as they say.

Note: A friend just told me someone is emailing a virus with my name on the attachment. Supposedly it is made to look like another free e-book from me. I would never mass e-mail an e-book, but instead would direct you to a site where you could download it on your own. Again, be careful. Use virus protection software and scrutinize every e-mail you receive before you click on it.
