TIP: How do you come up with ideas for products people will buy from you today?

I'll give you a few clues:

Last month my Nokia 9290 Communicator suddenly stopping receiving email. Though carrying this mobile phone/email device has felt like lugging a brick in my pocket, I always loved it. Well, it was time to look for a new phone. This one was old, frail, and near dead. I was about to begin the confusing quest for a replacement.

Clue #1: If you had an e-book out there reviewing all the different "smart phones" on the market, I would have bought it.

I went online, went to bookstores, bought and read magazine reviews of phones that could send and receive email. I finally settled on a new one called SideKick ll. I called around, found a company in Austin that sold it, and drove there to get it.

One look at the phone and I knew I did not want it. Besides looking fragile and cheap, it was made by a company called Danger. Well, I can take a hint. I passed.

While at the store, another phone seemed to call my name. It was a Blackberry 7290. Good name. I like to eat blackberries. But I tried a Blackberry three years ago and sent it back when it couldn't get a signal anywhere near me. But this new phone looked good. I asked a few questions, played with it a bit, and shelled out $300 for it.

But when I got home, I found the device to be a challenge. Some functions were intuitive while others were not. I read the manual and thought it was more a tease than a teacher.

Clue #2: If you had a book on how to use my new Blackberry, I would have bought it.

I called the store where I bought the phone. They were helpful. But I wanted more. So I went online and searched for help. I used Amazon's http://www.a9.com feature, typed in "Blackberry 7290" and up came several results, including a DVD on all the secret ways to use my Blackberry. I bought it instantly.

Once I started to get more comfortable with my new tech toy, I then decided to get some extras for it, such as a leather case, a nice ear piece and mike, etc. I jumped online and began searching for accessories.

Clue #3: If you had a site selling extras for the Blackberry, or if you had an e-book reviewing all the extras, I would have bought it from you.

Do you see how this works?

You pay attention to the problems you hear people having. Those are opportunities. Get the answers, turn them into products, and you're on your way.

But let me make sure you understand this process, as this is a proven key to wealth.

As you know, I lost my beloved best friend, my ex, in October. Going through the grieving process has not been easy. We were together over 25 years. Well, in an attempt to relieve my pain, and to understand death, I have done research on near-death experiences, grieving, healing, and letting go.

Clue #4: If you had a product to help me get through my grief, or to help me better understand death in a positive way, I would have bought it.

Again, pay attention to what people say they need -- including what you say you need -- and turn that need into a product. Because people need it, they will shell out money for it.

Follow?

Finally, where do you find the people who may want the product you create?

Clue #5: Look in the mirror.

They are online, just like you. They are members of discussion groups, email lists, and forums.

For example. Corey Rudl says he makes an extra $100,000 a year with a side business providing Ferrari decals to Ferrari car owners.

How did he know they wanted the decals?

He was on one of the discussion boards for Ferrari owners, heard people repeatedly post the question, "Where can I buy Ferrari decals?" and then created a way to provide what they needed. The problem became a product.

Is this easy or what?

Re-read the above. I just gave you one of the most reliable ways to make money online (or even off).

These days even innocent emails from friends are having trouble making it to their intended recipients.

How do you get around these filters?

Easy. Send your voice by email. The filters will just see a link. You can swear all you like in your audio recording (not that I condone that) and the link will go right through the filters.

RANT: I'm getting tired of people claiming to know what Hypnotic Writing is, complaining about the writing they think is hypnotic, and then showing me writing that is heavy handed, wooden, trite, and even boring.

That is *not* Hypnotic Writing.

UNUSUAL: Are subliminals for real? While the evidence for them is more subliminal than conclusive, I have to admit I'm fascinated by the idea of hidden messages in ads, images, and even words. If you want to read a fascinating book by a true believer, get "The Secret Sales Pitch" by August Bullock.

I found the author's writing, comments, and insights eye-opening. I got so excited by reading his book that I emailed him. While I still think subliminal messages in ads are questionable, I know subliminal *perception* is very real.

For example, you are making conclusions right now that have nothing to do with what I'm writing. They are being based on your unconscious making judgments about what I've *not* said as well as what I have said.

Get the book. Read it. It ties in nicely with Hypnotic Writing and Hypnotic Selling.

I thought the subliminal art on the book cover was genius. I bought a T-shirt of it to wear to conduct my own street tests. I wanted to see if people respond to the clever subliminal message on it. As soon as I put it on, super sharp Nerissa spotted the subliminal and asked, "Why are you wearing a sex shirt?"

PERSONAL: After having my NordicTrack Eclipse exercise machine for almost ten years (but only really using it over the last five months) one morning last month it broke.

I quickly jumped online, went to the NordicTrack e-store, and instantly chose a fancy new model with all the new bells and whistles that my old model never had.

I then called them and BEGGED for overnight or at least three-day shipping, as I didn't want to lose my momentum toward my fitness goals.

They said they couldn't do it, that all orders take two weeks. But the nice operator/sales lady said she would personally call the warehouse and put a rush on the order and I might have it next week. I took a gulp and did it.

Now, what's amazing about all this is ME.

In the past I would have taken this as an excuse to stop working out. Today I'm desperate to get the replacement here NOW so I can keep working out.

I like the new me.

What happened to me?

I've simply started being tough, but in a loving way. As a result, I've lost almost 50 pounds (so far).
