LESSON: Over one of the holidays Nerissa and I relaxed watching television. At one point I bolted straight up in my chair. I had just seen one of the best home-made short commercials of all time.

The scene opened with a deathly looking man stretched out in an airplane seat. He was sick and looked it. The person destined to sit beside him saw him and screamed. Then the announcer cut to the line, "Airborne® was developed by a school teacher who was sick of getting sick in the classroom."

That's it. A dramatic image, a loud scream, and the name of the product with a tag line I would never forget. Talk about hypnotic.

I went online and found the product. Airborne is a herbal product designed to cut off colds before they drop you.

I have no idea who created the commercial. It looked simply done, probably home-made, and was extremely short --- I bet 10 seconds tops.

While you're sitting there reading this on your computer, sharp people with small budgets are making money with simple ads on television. Airborne® is one of them.

When marketing, keep all avenues of communication open, not just the Internet. And don't be afraid to scream.

John Creasey, a British mystery novelist, has written 500 novels.

Does that seem like a lot?

Isaac Asimov wrote more than 500 books in his lifetime.

Is THAT a lot?

It all comes down to comparison.

I might seem prolific until you compare me to Steven King. King might look productive until you compare him to Bly. And all of us look pretty lazy when you compare us to Crease and Asimov.
