Recommendation: I read "Miracles Happen" by famed businesswoman Mary Kay Ash -- in one day.

This courageous woman's rise from nothing and nobody to millionaire and ruler of a pink empire is inspiring. Her stories about helping women make money by focusing on giving, and on helping people feel good, are delightful. Her lessons about practicing the golden rule in business, spreading good cheer to all, and staying happy no matter what, are golden.

I can't say enough good things about Mary Kay or "Miracles Happen." If you think success just "appears" to people, read this book. Once again, success comes to those who help others achieve *their* goals.

"Miracles Happen" is a quick read in paperback from Amazon or most bookstores. Get it. Read it. Live it.

LESSON: "Oddball Ohio" is a guide to strange, unusual, and weird (but true) places in Ohio. Since I'm on my way to Ohio as you read this, it's fitting that we discuss this book right now.

Books like this remind me of how easy it is to get in the news. The media loves the odd, the bizarre, and the humorous. Come up with odd trivia about you, your business or your site, and the media will feed people right to your door.

"Oddball Ohio" contains nearly 300 pages of such listings as The Bathroom Museum, The Wall of Gum, The Hearing Aid Museum, the World's Longest Bar, Bogart and Bacall's wedding site (yes, in OHIO), and much more.

Each listing is written with hysterical clarity by Jerome Pohlen. You can learn much from studying his style. And you'll smile a lot, too.

The only things left out of "Oddball Ohio" are the important facts that there is a museum in Niles, Ohio with a section on me (yes, ME), and that famed marketer Dan Kennedy is also from the Buckeye State. Surely these were innocent oversights. Maybe we'll be in the revisions.

Anyway, there's a lesson in this series, and I hope you hear it. If not, go order all the other books currently available: "Oddball Illinois", "Oddball Wisconsin", "Oddball Minnesota", "Oddball Colorado," "Oddball Indiana", and "Oddball Florida."

CASE STUDY: I suffer from heel spurs. I got them when I used to jog some 20 years ago. They still give me pain. I'm always looking for ways to cure them. So one day I did some searching and found http://www.heel-that-pain.com/

Now, if you have no idea what a heel spur is, the site will not seem hypnotic to you. And that's a lesson. Your site should be so targeted that only the people needing your product will care about it.

Take a look at that site. You'll find a guarantee, testimonials, credibility builders such as the NBA star and the Better Business Bureau logo, and you'll see a very simple and direct design.

Also note the first line of copy. It reads:

"Does Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spurs, or Heel Pain cause you to suffer throughout the day?"

That line works on three levels:

1. It feeds the search engine the exact terms people will use when doing their searches. (I typed in "heel spur." It led me here.)

2. It asks a question that rounds up the exact people who need what the site sells. (Only people with Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spurs, or Heel Pain will go here.)

3. It asks a question which gets you nodding your head in agreement. (Getting people to agree with you is a proven hypnotic selling tool.)

This site works. It works because it has a single message, a single product, and a single audience.

It doesn't need much copy because the people hitting the site already know what the problem is.

If you have to educate or persuade people, then you need longer copy.

If anything, I'd like to see some detail on how their product is different from all the "heel pads" you can find in a drugstore. That's the weak link in this site.

Still, I bought their remedy. How could I not?

I'm in pain and the site promises -- even double guarantees --- relief. Of course I bought it.

Their site says the product is shipped by Express Mail. Well, mine was shipped by Priority Mail. That needs fixed on their site, too. Never mislead your customers. I was waiting for an Express Mail -- which means next day delivery in the US -- which never came. (Express Mail is normally next day and Priority Mail is normally 2 to 3 days. Big difference when you're in pain.)

Do I like the product? Has it helped my heel spurs?

You bet. I like it so much, I am ordering more sets for my other shoes. I am VERY pleased.

Do something different. By now you may have heard of the Seattle man who sold his ex-wife's wedding dress on Ebay -- by taking pictures of himself wearing it. He got national television coverage, newspaper coverage, and caused a stir on the net. His listing got 15 million hits.(Fifteen million!)
