LESSON: How can you stay positive?

More than one person recently has asked me, "How do you stay so positive and so productive?"

I've certainly had my share of pain and suffering. Just re-read past issues of this newsletter, or my book, "Adventures Within," to learn about my own past, struggles, and even tragedies.

So how do I keep in the sunlight?

Here's my own answer:

1. I rarely watch the news, read the paper, or listen to the radio. Those are the primary sources of negative programming. If you want to feel bad, watch the news. The world will begin to look pretty bleak. Yet few realize that the news is one-sided, often inaccurate and distorted, and designed to feed and amplify your fears. Avoid it.

2. I don't associate with negative people. I wrote an article called "Levels" (recently posted on mrfire.com) that explains if you want success on a scale never experienced before, you better move up the ladder of associations. Said differently, you'll become like those you hang around. Spend time with gossipers and complainers and you'll lose heart and stay stuck. Choose wisely. As Randy Gage says, "Your income and prosperity will be the average of your five closest friends." (Think about it.)

3. I read and listen to positive books and tapes. When I was driving back and forth to a job I hated in Houston, I played self-help and personal growth tapes in my car. My vehicle became a university on wheels. I do the same thing today.

I still buy recordings from Nightingale-Conant. I still listen to classics, such as Dr. Robert Anthony's "Beyond Positive Thinking." I feed my brain.

You are in control of your own mind. But you can be deeply influenced by everything around you. Follow the above steps, and implement any new ones you come across, and you, too, can be positive, productive, and even prosperous.

LESSON: Can an order receipt create more sales?

A friend told me about CDBaby.com, a cool place for struggling artists to list their music and music fans to search, shop and buy it.

I had an enjoyable Sunday shopping for new CDs.
I placed my order and let it go. But then I received one of the most delightful receipts ever written. Here it is:

"Your CDs have been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.

"A team of 50 employees inspected your CDs and polished them to make sure they were in the best possible condition before mailing.

"Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CDs into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.

"We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved 'Bon Voyage!' to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, Tuesday, February 10th.

"I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did. Your picture is on our wall as "Customer of the Year". We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!

Is that a heart-warming, fun, personal and memorable order receipt or what?

Because of the inviting nature of that receipt, I'm ready to return and shop for more CDs. (In fact, I did, the very next day after receiving the above.)

They make the whole buying experience FUN.

The only thing missing from their receipt is an upsell. They might have urged me to revisit the store. Or maybe said, "Since you like the band 'Telling Stories,' you might also enjoy these music groups, as well."

(Actually, a few days later they did send me an email suggesting other music I might like.)

How can you make better use of your receipts?

QUESTION: How can you think and grow rich automatically?

Note I said *automatically*.

Pat O'Bryan has created original music and an original CD based on Napoleon Hill's famous book. But instead of reading the book, now all you have to do is put on headphones and listen to the subliminals. The CD is called "Think and Grow Rich Automatically."

LESSON: Can a change of a few words really
make a difference in your sales?

Colleen Szot is the author of the most successful infomercial of all time. Her infomercial for NordicTrac sold 360,000 units in the first month alone. (!)

In one version of the infomercial, the announcer said, "Operators are waiting, call now."

In the revised version of the same infomercial, the announcer said, "If operators are busy, please call again."

The revision caused sales to go through the roof.

Why?

It conveyed the message that the machine "must be good" because so many people are ordering it that the phone lines are tied up.

Rewriting and testing are the real keys to making sales with your words.
