LESSON: I'm frustrated by people, especially friends, who focus on the negative and don't take action.

They look at their lives, note everything they tried that didn't work, and refuse to try again.

They act like everything *I* touch turns to gold.

Hardly.

I simply don't focus on the things that haven't worked.

It's basic "The Attractor Factor." It's basic to fundamental psychology: You get more of whatever you focus on. Talk yourself into the "reality" that what you try doesn't work and that will be your reality -- because YOU made it so.

I have a friend who used to write provocative blog posts. He's written books and more. But he's been quiet for a month or more now. When I politely asked why, I was stunned to hear him say "nothing I try ever works."

So he was giving up.

Yet he's the same guy who *did* offer ebooks that sold, and blog entries people liked, and who had contacts with famous online people who admired his work.

But HE thinks his work is pointless, meaningless, and doesn't work.

As long as he chooses to see it that way, that's all he will see.

My sister is the same way.

I can't tell you how many times she writes me, complaining about her life.

Yet she's the same person who raised three great kids, recently saw two of them get married, has a job, a loving husband, a big brother who showers her with gifts, and more.

But she doesn't focus on that.

She complains.

And the more she complains, the more she sees to complain about.

The lesson here is to watch your mindset. I wrote a blog entry about a new book called "Mindset." Get it. It's a reminder that you are in control of your mind, and that means you're in control of what you do.

Not everything I try works out. No matter. I move on to the next thing.

I went through homelessness, poverty, depression, obesity, failure after failure, embarrassment, shame, struggle, filed for bankruptcy, went to court for writing checks I couldn't cover, and more -- for DECADES.

I was not an overnight success.

But I persisted.

You can, too.

Focus on what works.

YOU direct your mind.

If you stop, or don't try, or give up, it's because of one person and only one person:

The person in your mirror.
