Releasing Limits

Peter Michel got an advance copy of Zero Limits and sent me the following email. I loved it and asked his permission to share it here with you, which he gave. Enjoy. 🙂

Dear Joe,

Wow, gosh.  I’m blazing through your book here.  I rarely do more than dip and skim books very quickly.  I’m already up to page 45, having read every page so far.

It’s yummy — filled with love… clear, concise… again, your best book so far.

I’m not sure if I shared this with you or not, but I shared this with Dr. Len at the dinner you held in his honor in Texas, and I still stand by it — though I’m not sure Dr. Len understood what I was sharing, as it takes a little more explanation that I had time to give to it.

In the Release Technique (see www.theabundancecourse.com), Lester Levinson taught us that every program (memory) is rooted in desire… one of three: wanting approval, wanting control or wanting to be safe/to survive.  Above these three is the desire to be separate (from the “I” or “All”).

By applying ho’oponopono only to the individual memories, we are mostly addressing just the branches.  We are not snipping the roots.  Thus, the tree of illusion regrows until true Self-identification/Self-realization happens.

Releasing isn’t just about “cleaning”; it is very much about Self-identity or “I”-Dentity as Dr. Len calls it.  It is about knowing *that* you are — consciously.  Being your Beingness only — I am that I am.

Releasing is a tool for clearing the memories so that one can more easily *taste*, consciously, the open awareness in which the memories arise and return to.  The more we taste what we truly are, the more we identify with it.  This is the ONLY way to identify correctly with who and what we are — to consciously and repeatedly taste or drop into it by relaxing into the open, peaceful experience of just simply *being*… also known as “zero.”

Applying ho’oponopono is, to me, far more powerful when each feeling, clutch, thought, program, pattern or problem that arises in the mind is taken down to: “Is this coming from a wanting approval, wanting control, wanting to be safe or a wanting to be separate?”  Then, we can offer that lacking feeling (desire) to the Divine with ho’oponopono (love/acceptance) and clear these MASTER programs, into which EVERY other memory/program is tied (no exceptions).

When we clear these roots, we clear far more “charge” off all the other memories/programs and we sink further and deeper into the “I” with far greater ease… leading us, again, to more fully and completely “I”-Denitfy with what we truly are… Openness.

Here’s an example:

If I feel pride over something, I can ask myself which of the “wants” is it coming from.  For me, pride arises often from a “wanting to be separate” root program.  By saying, “I love you.  I’m sorry” to that wanting to be separate feeling in my body-mind, I allow myself to let go of not only that pride program, but also EVERY OTHER program that is FED by that master control program of wanting to separate myself from others… such as my being “bossy” or “not listening,” etc.  Everything tied into this root can be cleared much more rapidly when I “ho’oponopono” the root instead of just the branch (the particular memory or current expression born from that root).

I have felt to share this with you each time I have thought of ho’oponopono.  This occurred to me first as Dr. Len was speaking to the group.  It feels born of inspiration.

You don’t need to do anything with this perspective.  I’m just feeling to share it with you.  In truth, I’m the only one who needs to apply it 🙂

I love you and deeply appreciate you for sharing this, Joe.

Your book is living up to what I had felt it would be — POWERFUL and full of LOVE.  Tears came to my eyes reading Dr. Len’s words.  And, the book is beautifully written.  It is some of your better writing.

If I’m around on July 10th, I will be buying a bunch to help ensure it reaches number one on Amazon.

What’s amazing is that it was written just for me, as “I” am the only one Here.

With much gratitude…

Om Namah Shivaya and Aloha,

Peter

    Hi Joe.

I appreciate the amazing efforts you and your buddies go to when trying to relay your thoughts and ideas. (Which I totally agree with by the way).

It’s just that the manner in which you all speak, (and particularly this post), because it’s spoken in such knowledgable tone, will fly straight over the heads of most people.

Personally, I believe ‘Rhyme’ to be the best transferer of any knowledge or ‘subconscious learning’. Have you thought of putting your thoughts to ‘Rhyme’?

Maybe you already have. If so, any chance of giving us the heads-up?

Best wishes to you and your buddies.

    Pete.

Hi Joe,I got my confirmation e-mail yesterday that my copy of Zero -Limits is on its way from Amazon. As a Hospice Nurse it will help me in countless ways. I have Listened to and learning from many of your “secret Buddies”. Bill, James,Hale and John, as well as yourself. I feel I have personal coaches and spiritual guides helping me to re-create me. I’m also researching for several e-books in the drafting. Genius stands on the shoulders of other genius.
I love you, “my Big Brothers”

    Dear Joe,
I’m writing to you all the way to you from Malaysia.
I have read your article about Ho’oponopono from your emails and blogs. It was at the back of my mind to look at the book. I went to bookshop yesterday looking for another book and not Zero Limits as you mentioned that it will only be out on July 10. However, I happened to see your book 1st while searching for my other book, and my “free will” instinctively said BUY! After that I also found the other book that I had been looking for. I’m enjoying it so far and its really very hooking.
The way Len mention to you that he doesn’t advertise his seminars, “that only the people who are ready to be there will be there”, reminds me so much of my local trainer coach who does his Life Junction sessions. He said that when it’s time for people to come to his seminars, they will be there somehow. Even though we feel we want some people to be there, it’s not time for them yet.

    Love & Gratitude,
    POI, Nicky

    Joe/Pete,

I appreciate Pete’s comments and commitment to The Release Technique. I am intimately familiar with it as well as with the Icap Release Meter.

However, I do not agree with the analogy nor the conclusion. In fact, my experience is exactly the opposite of that described in your post Pete. I found it to be the case that the Release Technique tends to have me focus on the noise of memory rather than experiencing memory so it can be cleared. It sort feels like there is a desparate attempt to make the subconcsious so that it can be ‘measured and released’. In my experience Ho Oponopono skips the unnecessary step of making subconcsious concsious and obviates the needs to ‘measure’ anything. Besides, in most cases there are so many millions of subconcsious memories and beliefs that a person could not possibly grind through the process of bringing them up individually or otherwise so they can be released.

With all due respect to Lester and his gang, it is my considered opinion, having experienced these and many others that Ho Oponopono connects you directly to Divinity – to source – and elimiates the need for tinkering with the toys for the mind.

Then again, this is just my experience of it. I know my neighbor Ray, the inventor of the Icap and a difinitive master of The Release Technique, has exprienced equally if not superior clarity wit the it.

I have a Release Meter and have used it from time to time. Other than out of academic curiosity, I am just not yet sure I see the need to ‘measure’ this process of releasing or clearing. In my opinion, it can actually get the person focused on the wring thing and can hinder the process of releasing.

Peace, Love, and Gratitude to you.

I have taken 2 Ho’oponopono workshops with Dr. Hew Len and 2 with atonher teacher from Self I dentity. I use the practice moment by moment in my life. I am glad the spiritual element is being brought forth. It is interetsing to me that I was introduced to Ho’oponopono through Zero limits but at the last workshop I attended with Dr. Hew Len in Portland a couple of weeks ago, he stated a few times he hadn’t even read it. Anyhow, it doesn’t matter who or what has been, will be or will never be said. All that matters is that I clean in myself and stay clear. If there is controversy then I have created it and when I get clean it will be right. I love you. Thank you

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for sharing your views.

I hear what you’re saying. And, in my experience, if one is striking the “roots”, they don’t need to contend with the millions of thoughts. Most of the thoughts are stimulated by feelings, which in turn are generated by desires. Knocking out the desires knocks out a chunk of everything across the board. If you go at them one-by-one, then yes, it will take you forever.

Also, it is wise to balance active releasing with time in Beingness/Quiet. This is crucial, else we just keep trying to “fix the story” instead of realizing it has nothing to do with who we truly are.

Ho’oponopono is a way to quiet the mind as well, but, by itself, it does not (in my experience) usually address the underlying roots tied into every suppressed negative thought and feeling.

For instance, clearing unforgiveness with one person may not clear it with another if the underlying “wanting approval” or “wanting to control” is still in place. However, dump a good chunk of these “wants” with one person, and you will have gone a long way towards acceptance of both people. Lester devised a massive shortcut here. I’m not sure you’re striking the roots if you feel it is merely “focusing on the noise of memory.” It’s not about focusing on anything for very long, such that it increases it — rather it’s about welcoming it up for a moment, seeing the underlying root, and dropping it right then and there instead of “working on it” or “fixing it.” You just dump it. Then, you can focus on the positive or just simply remain quiet as beingness (i.e “Zero”).

You may just be letting go of some of the general suppressed emotional energy, but not the driver of that energy — the underlying desires — thus the noise continues. The noise in my head used to be unbearable. Now it is almost totally peaceful and silent. It is a delicious quiet. This is from striking these underlying roots.

Combining ho’oponopono with releasing is something I have found to be very effective. Ho’oponopono by itself is effective, and the Release Technique by itself is very effective, but combined, I think it is even more effective.

What letting go of the underlying “wants” really turns out to be, ultimately, is just you “being your beingness” — or your “I-dentity”, as ho’oponopono calls it. When you are free from wanting approval, wanting control and wanting to be safe, what’s left over? You are. Your perfect beingness only. This is just a way to enter the portal of silent being by turning the mind’s tendency to think into a tool for undoing itself — without it even realizing it.

Something else I find very effective is the work of John Sherman who teaches Ramana Maharshi’s self-inquiry work. His teachings are extremely simple, clear and effective.

Even Lester Levenson, who developed the Release Technique said that Ramana’s way is fastest, but most people can’t do it due to the mind being so active — so he devised the Release Technique to use the active mind to undo the mind, like using a splinter to remove another splinter, then both splinters are thrown away. However, John Sherman has truly simplified and clarified Ramana’s teaching such that they may be used by almost anyone, no matter how active their mind.

Go listen to his free podcasts. I think you’ll find his practice extremely helpful. His main website: http://www.riverganga.org and his blog: http://www.johnsherman.org.

As for the iCAP, I still swear by it as a guide to quieting the mind fast — particularly when you are releasing from the underlying desires themselves and letting the audios lead you and the meter guide you in the direction of imperturbability.

    Thanks for your great comments.

    Much love to you.

    Peter

    Hi, Peter

Yes, John Sherman’s work is great. You probably know that Hale Dwoskin (from Sedona Method) is also lately teaching what he calls the 5th way of releasing, which is pretty much Ramana’s self-inquiry.

Do you think once the self-inquiry kicks in is it really necessary to continue releasing?

    Thank you,

    Hi Peter, Steve and Jur!

I’m quite fond of practicing the Sedona Method, and find it has made an enormous improvement in my life. My suggestion regarding your posts on the combination of Sedona Method or Release Technique and Ho’oponopono, to borrow a quote from Lester Levenson, is “take it for checking”. I did, and I have to agree with Peter’s comments all around.

One of my children gave witness to something I needed to work on in myself that I wasn’t completely aware of. I released on the emotion by first welcoming it, then asking what ‘want’ was associated with the emotion, and finally applying Ho’oponopono to that ‘want’. I encountered a quicker and deeper shift than I’ve been accustomed to up until now. Usually I follow this pattern of welcome and let go, welcome and let go, to jiggle things loose, welcoming the emotion and then the want and releasing in reverse order. This time, when I got around to asking the releasing question on the emotion, I found that it had already completely disappeared. (What will be really interesting is to see over time if this release manifests in a change in my child, since it was the comment they made initially that brought this about in the first place.)

In regard to the question regarding self-inquiry (The Fifth Way, as Hale calls it) and releasing, I’m finding that I cannot maintain that level of self-awareness for any length of time. I believe it’s still a matter of too much “noise of memory” in the sub-conscious mind that is causing this for me. I’m hoping that by combining the two modalities the result will be less chatter and more clarity. And by applying Ho’oponopono in its truest form, using releasing to help identify the topic in me that needs cleaning, I hope to heal my family and everyone I encounter as well.

    Namaste

    Hi, Edward

    Thanks for your comments.

You said that you find it hard to maintain self-awareness for any length of time. In one of John Sherman’s podcasts he says that maintaining a constant self-awareness is not necessary. What does the work is to “taste” yourself as often as you can, without worring about how long you can sustain it.

He uses a metaphor of self-inquiry being like taking a medicine to cure a disease.

If you haven’t listened to his podcasts yet I highly recommend them.

    Thank you,
    Jur

I just attended a Ho’oponopono workshop with Dr.Len here in Toronto Canada and laughed all weekend! after spending this time with Dr.Len and reading “The Key” and then “Zero Limit’s I feel like I have found my way home and have arrived at the front door step! I have a feeling Dr.Len would be telling Pete if he still needed to ask a question on the purpose of the memory he simply needed to clean, clean, clean, leave the rest to the Divine. Of course Dr.Len wouldn’t say it in such a way! I can’t wait to attend another Ho’oponopono workshop and hope that Dr.Len and Joe write another book to teach us how to use more of the healing tools of the Self I Dentity Ho’oponopono
    Thank you Dr.Len & Joe,
We all now have the tools to errase shared memories.
Together we can stop the next generation from experiencing war and disease.
I love you Joe Vitale, I love you Dr.Len.
    God Bless you.

I found that the iCAP generally is a crutch. Instead of looking into their own experience people look instead for the external validation of their progress it provides. This puts a glass ceiling, one will likely never go free as long as they look outside themselves for assistance. (This is the same problem with so called ‘calibration’/kinesiology rubbish that Hawkins promotes). The bottom line is if you need to verify your experience with an external machine, you’re looking for security.

I’ve often thought about this, as I’m also familiar with the Sedona method and agree that everything comes from those desires. The thing is, I do remember learning that in ho oponopono you don’t need to know what you’re cleaning directly because divinity, or your higher self, knows. I’m sure it works either way though.
