I had a food sensitivities test done and was shocked by the results.

Food sensitivities are different than food allergies.

Allergic reactions to food are usually immediate and obvious. You eat peanuts and end up (if you’re allergic to them) in ER.

Sensitivities are sneaky. You eat some innocent food and three days later wonder why you have a headache. Or are feeling depressed. Or lethargic. Etc.

Sometimes called hidden food allergies, food sensitivities may cause nasal allergies, asthma, arthritis, stomach problems, inability to lose weight, fatigue, migraine headaches, and oh so much more.

I was a skeptic about this until Nerissa had her test done a month or more back. We were surprised to see neutral foods like spinach, or spices like pepper, were obvious problems for her.

Who would have guessed it?

I still wasn’t convinced. But after seeing her carefully examine all the foods she ate, and eliminate all the known sensitivity suspects, and then seeing her feel better, I decided I better do the blood test, too.

I did.

What an eyeopener.

For example, I was stunned to see the king of antioxidants — blueberries — to be a red alert food for me.

Blueberries?

I’ve been eating blueberries every day for years.

Those innocent berries are a problem for me.

Same with green peppers, though I was looking for an excuse not to eat them anyway.

Same with eggplant.

Same with grapes. (No wine for me.)

All bad guys to my body.

There are numerous things I can safely eat, of course.

All forms of meat are fine for me, though chicken is nudging the suspect line and turkey is hands down good for me.

I knew cheeses were a problem for me, but I didn’t know blue cheese, Swiss cheese and goat’s cheese were all safe. (I love goat cheese.)

None of this means you can gorge on the safe foods. Calories still count. Moderation still counts. But, in general, eating a lot of safe foods will be better for you health-wise in the long run.

If you’ve never had a food sensitivities test, I encourage you to get one. They draw some blood, send it to a lab, and you get the results in a week.

There are at least four kinds of respected food sensitivities tests. Nerissa took the IgG ELISA. I took the MRT. We both agreed the MRT was more comprehensive and easier to understand, though it was four times as expensive to do.

Keep in mind that the results you get aren’t all bad news. You don’t have to give up the food villans forever. You can correct food sensitivities by eliminating the suspect foods for a couple of months, and then reintroducing them to your body. Your body will then be reset. The result is a happier, healthier you.

Ask your medical doctor about it.

Better yet, since your doc may not know about these tests, ask an alternative care practitioner about them.

Ao Akua,

Joe

PS – I was hoping garlic and scallops were OK for me. They are. I’m addicted to both. Had the results shown them as bad news for me, I would have done the test again, but with someone else’s blood.

Note: The MRT food sensitivities test that I took is done by the Signet Diagnostic Corporation. You can get information by completing their online form at www.nowleap.com/complimentary_prescreening.html (I don’t know the company or anyone working there. Again, consult with your physician.)

TIP: I currently have someone making my food for me once a week. This makes my life easier. I just reach in the frig and pull out the next meal. It’s weighed, balanced, and only consists of safe foods for me. If you’re in the Austin or Wimberley, Texas area, let me know and I’ll tell you who he is. If you aren’t near by, you might look for a nutritionist that makes house calls.

I have heard some rumors that tests for food sensitivity can’t be trusted. I’m not saying that this is the case for you. Why don’t you take the test again at another facility and see if the results are the same?

Anyways.. Let us know how it works out for you 🙂

I deal with lots of food sensitivities in my EFT practice, it works wonders in clearing them.

Often time clearing food sensitives does wonders for kids who have behavior issues. In my practice we have seen wonders when it comes to autism by clearing substance sensitivities.

I know you use EFT, check with who you work with and they can help you out.

I’m well aware of EFT — been doing it way back when it was called TFT — but I also know it often doesn’t change the ingredients of your blood.

It’s a useful tool, though. See http://www.moneybeyondbelief.com and my fortcoming book, The Key.

I just tried to research the MRT test on Google and one of the first sites that came up was this one: http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/Tests/allergytests.html
The article was called Allergies: Dubious Diagnosis and Treatment by
Stephen Barrett, M.D. and says that these types of food sensitivity tests are very questionable.
Anyway, it’s hard to know what to believe!

I was not happy to see that NAET was on the list. I have been treated for Food sensitivities with both EFT and NAET. Both worked beautifully. I had a blood test and the practitioner found the same results. I am eating all those foods now and have restored my health.

    Hi joe,

I suffered from food intolerance for a couple of yearssss without being able to find the substance I was intolerant too. I went to see a dermatologist and an allergy specialist and they have found nothing wrong with me and with their test results. They tell me I was too stress…

One day, by observing the ingredients inside the foods I was eating, I observed that all had colorant, caramel and some other synthethesed substances to give color to food. I began to remove all these food from my diet and since that day I almost never have these reaction except if go to a restaurant or eat out at a friend place and I can’t check the food ingredient.

I also look carefully at food that are too bright like fluorescent brocoli, yellow chicken broth, too bright meat of fish, …

I’m glad I finally found it because I was miserable with the reactions my body had.

So I would say to all that suffer from intolerance to keep searching even if specialists tell you there is nothing wrong with you.

    Take care

    Serge

The comment “it’s hard to know what to believe!” doesn’t take into account the tens of thousands of personal stories –many of them on the web– where people say they identified the foods (or food chemicals) that were bad for them and they got over their main health problems that had plagued them for years. If you don’t trust blood tests then go on an elimination diet for a couple weeks–that won’t cost a dime.

This is so eye opening – I never would have found this solution is what is so cool- knew about food allergies…but – didn’t get on the open ended, open minded, full blown solution set of getting a nutritionist to make up the foods that work. Dr. Fire you are the best…absolutely the best!

  11. June 28, 2007 at 9:56 am

You are right EFT doesn’t change the content of the blood in the body.

BUT, what it can do is:

    1) Stop the symptoms of the subsentence sensitivity (be it physical like hives or emotional like the examples you use)

    and

    2) It can be used to eliminate the body’s sensitivity response. With EFT you can clear the fact the body is sensitive to something.

For example: You said you have a sensitivity to blueberries. By holding (and focusing on) the blueberries and tapping through you can clear the sensitivity.

  12. June 28, 2007 at 10:08 am

    Gene, thanks for explaining.

The point is, how do you know WHAT you are sensitive too unless you take a blood test?

Food sensitivities aren’t obvious like food allergies.

You’ll be tapping for years trying to find them all, even if you do “generalized” tappings by category.

Once you know a food sensitivity — and there are usually a long list of them — you can begin to work on them. You can tap them away if you believe that will help, or you can simply ignore them for a month or so and then reintroduce them.

I say do whatever it takes to get and stay healthy.

    Be well,

    joe

    Hi Joe & Nerissa,

Have you heard of NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques)? This is a natural Permanent cure for allergies, both sensitive and full blown. An excellent book on the subject is “Say Good-Bye to Illness” by Dr. Devi S. Nambudripad.

I was allergic to 13 of the top 15 food categories and have been undergoing treatments for the last several months. You don’t have to give up your favorite foods!!! Her website is: http://www.naet.com, where you can locate a practitioner in your area.

    Best of luck to you!

I wanted to add that conventional blood tests for food allergies and sensitivies don’t always prove to be correct. My husband has been suffering for the last 10 years from progressive neurological problems affecting his balance and causing severe refractory migraine headaches. He was tested for everything both allopathically and alternatively. It wasn’t until he started working with a physical therapist who does a form of integrative physical therapy that she suggested there might be a problem with “gluten”. By eliminating gluten in his diet and all processed sugars he has had a remarkable reduction in his migraine headaches from 3-4 a week to 2-3 a month. We are hoping with time there will be a further reduction in his migraines and that he will also regain his balance.
Over the last 6 years he has tried all kinds of remedies, therapies, supplements, medications etc. GLUTEN elimination is the only thing that has helped. By the way,
we are told that more and more people are having a problem with gluten. You many want to check this out for yourself. We are also using the healing codes.

    To your health,

    Nancy

That’s so interesting… I stopped eating wheat and dairy (I can do goat and buffalo milk) and several health problems I’d had all my life disappeared overnight, and I also dropped 15 pounds effortlessly.

Joe, I just recently purchased the Attractor Factor and am loving it! I also read Life’s Missing Instruction Manual recently and it’s wonderful too. When I first started working online, I came across your sites but they didn’t resonate with me then. Now I’m seeing you everywhere and things are really clicking.

Thank you for your wonderful books, I’m on a mission to read them all. 🙂
And I’m working on attracting the perfect home for me and my 4 kids.

  16. June 30, 2007 at 3:11 am

Most food sensitivities/allergies are the cause for MOST people’s migraines, so are skin conditions, especially in children.

Personally I can’t eat bread. It makes me feel bloated as well as giving me stomach cramps.

Lets face it, these days most things cause sensitivities/allergies to diffeent individuals and once you know (by even just ‘watching’ yourself) it’s best to avoid them.

I was developing an ulcer and went through the testing for that. At the same time, I had some food sensitivity testing done. I discovered I was highly allergic to wheat. A myriad of symptoms cleared up for me when I dropped wheat from my diet. My stomach symptoms went away and also many other things including severe eczema. All I know is that it worked for me and I highly recommend it.

    Dear Joe,

I have no physical symptoms, I feel healthy and strong, should I spend my money on a blood test?
In your article you encourage people to take this blood test, and since you are Joe Vitale many people will follow your advice.
They probably got somewhat scared because they might be sensitive to something they’re not aware of…
What happens if I start focusing on ‘poisoning’ my body with foods it doesn’t like? Will I attract a sensitivity?

I guess it could be helpful for people with (chronic) symptoms, but I would suggest otherwise healthy people to invest their money in buying healthy food and monitor the body language.

The Healing Codes have helped me with several symptoms and has in an incredibly short time (less than waiting for the blood test results) contributed to a more ‘whole’ me.

    Wishing well to you all.

Mo, if you or anyone has a health issue, you might consider a blood test. It can help you pinpoint what you then should release.

But if you don’t have a health concern, why in the world would you even want a blood test?

Obviously, the post wasn’t for you.

I just have to chime in on this. I have a hard time understanding why anyone would think this is a hoax.

I took this exact blood test a few years ago because I had been itching for over two years and no one could figure out why. They suspected that I had been overexposed to some chemical, either chlorine or possibly a food dye, but they couldn’t know for sure. They had tested my liver and everything else they could think of, and found nothing wrong.

I took the blood test and followed the rotation food plan they lay out for you. The reason this works is that your body has to deal with, on some level, everything you ingest. If your body has any kind of reaction, even if it’s very small, your immune system must do work. If you eliminate the foods that cause reactions that your immune system has to work on, you free the immune system to either rest or work on “real” issues.

In my case, it allowed my immune system to work on whatever was causing me to itch and it stopped within a month.

Our bodies are always changing and adapting, so the blood test I took a few years ago probably doesn’t apply anymore, however, I still try to stay away from those things that showed to be in the ‘red’ zone.

I don’t have any lingering health issues at this point, but I’ve seriously been thinking of taking this again to just try to give my body a boost.

    Love,
    Ann

I realize your post was from many many years ago, but I too am suffering from mysterious issue that they’ve diagnosed as eczema or seb dermatitis and I’ve been suffering for almost a year with no relief. There dermatologists cannot figure out the cause and just want to fill me with steroid creams.

I’ve just taken the MRT and am really hopeful by eliminating these foods I can rest and reset my body and finally get rid of this itching!!

I “discovered” this company over 5 years ago. My husband’s arthritis and heartburn disappeared completely on the LEAP diet after his blood test. His energy increased dramatically. Personally, I had no significant health problems, but got tested just out of “professional” curiosity. Mild muscle “stiffness” that I’d just attributed to “age” disappeared, so did my facial ruddiness that I’d assumed was due to my Irish/Finnish heritage.

I’ve since recommended the test and counsel clients on the diet protocol for the last 5 years, professionally, as a Registered Dietitian. I’ve seen outstanding results. Even had one neighbor that was suicidal due to completely disabling daily migraines. Within a month, his migraines were significantly down, and the last time we talked, he was running half-marathons.

    It’s a great program. (And, Quackwatch isn’t a reliable resource – Barrett doesn’t have a clue about Type 3 and 4 non-IgE immune reactions.)

Oh, and I’d agree with the posts that gluten intolerance (Celiac Disease) is a major problem and highly underdiagnosed in this country. I often recommend clients rule that out before MRT testing. (Also, if you HAVE Celiac Disease and don’t avoid ALL sources of wheat AND gluten, villi and health damage continues.)

    Sincerely,
    Jan (DineRight4 at aol.com)

I asked my physician for a food allergy test due to non-stop pain from Ankylosing Spondylitis since January of this year. I got the results back last Friday and was shocked at the list of ‘reactive’ items on the results. I consume something from that list every day (beef, chicken, caffeine, cocoa – to name a few). I’m cutting out everything in the red and yellow zones for 6 weeks. I’ll post a follow-up to report how it works. Btw, I had the LEAP test.

Follow up to my previous post:

If I cut out the reactive foods, my AS symptoms improve dramatically. I can now recognize when I eat something reactive that might be hidden, like MSG, my tongue burns and the sorness comes back within two days of eating it. The cost of the test was well worth the information it provided to help me control my symptoms.

Hello , thank your insightful information on this blog. I do want to add a comment . You gave a tip about cooking your meals once a week , so that they are ready to go. Please add this tip , that the food must be frozen. For people allergic/sensitive to mold/yeast eating a left over three days later can be a huge problem. Even food stored in the refrigerator does start the spoiling process, it must be frozen.

In 1988, I bought my first car, and clearly the case, once it insured. Everything was good for the state.

For the year, my car three times scratched. No fault of mine. I regularly receive insurance. Even with a usury. But still not all insurance pays off.

And then me one, my friend advised. And you, said the fear of your car each year. Only these are not money to the insurance company Nesi, a host leave. And since then, has fifteen years I have regularly insure your car. 10% of the value of the car. Each year.

Was during this time and minor accidents and incidents. But I did not have a headache when dealing with insurers! I myself insurer.

And now, I can say, and correctly, I did that, then obey friend!

Home in this case, it ruchenku to this zanachku not run is not the case. And all would-type top.

And of course do not keep all the money in one place. Part of the currency of the RR part on deposit, part of promotions … Well, etc.

The main thing is that at least a quarter of the cost of the machine could be quickly deleted. At the minor repairs.

Hello, there, my comment is not directly related to food sensitivity per se, but you may find it interesting… I have recently become a Vegan (since last October) due to compassionate reasons. While I had no problems to begin with, once I gave up animal products completely I started to have so much more energy and generally so much more in peace and love with the whole Universe (due to the fact I know that I am causing as little harm as possible, I think). Also, I have been given all kinds of gifts in return. First of all, I found out that this lifestyle is so healthy and it is so good for me. I was not thinking about myself, but once I looked beyond my own needs (did something for the poor animals), I was rewarded with better health. So, I see the Law of Attraction at work here – I gave and I received back in kind. And generally, just some really interesting things happened and it felt like they were rewards.

Gourmet cooking is one of my passions, and one of the reasons why I tried veganism was because I wanted food to be enjoyment of all senses. To me, every meal is like a celebration, so death pretty much does not belog there for me. It has been lots of fun making all the gourmet vegan dishes, even meat eaters love them. And it has been so much fun also with people getting so shocked: “what do you eat????” :):):)

I have tried to find any information about what Law of Attraction has to say about veganism and cruelty free life style in general, but I have not found anything on the subject. So, I am thinking that the vegan lifestyle is in fact one of those “giving without strings attached” things, which can pay you back in kind. I hope I am right on this one, and if I am, I could suggest this to anyone who is suspecting that what they eat is making them feel bad. Besides the chemical components, there is also very bad energy associated with animal products (something was taken away in a bad way and “everything is energy”, so it does not go anywhere – we consume it).

I have been reading The Attractor Factor book I just purchased – what a great book, so many things just make so much more sense now.

Warm Regards to Joe and Nerissa,

    Margarita
