Russia still owes me money.
Well, not Russia, but a couple of Russians.
It’s been a year since I was in Russia for an intense, relentless and unforgiving schedule of speaking gigs, seminars, news interviews, press conferences, autograph parties, movie filming, television interviewing, Q & A sessions with the public, private interviews, and more. Except for help with the seminar, I had to do everything alone. It was exhausting. Good thing I was paid well.
Oh.
Wait.
I wasn’t paid.
It’s been a year and I still haven’t been fully paid for that trip.
When I ask the Russian promoters where my money is, they tell me to ask their partners. When I ask them, they say it’s not their issue. And so it goes.
When I was in Russia, I was told Russians don’t take personal responsibility for anything. They even have a popular book titled Who’s Guilty? Their national pastime is pointing the blame elsewhere.
This isn’t unique to Russia, of course. Virtually everyone has issues with taking personal responsibility. Russia just happens to be the trigger for this blog post.
Given the above, it shouldn’t surprise me or anyone else that I still haven’t been paid for my adventures in Russia. I’ve forgiven them and (almost) forgotten about the deal. The only reason it surfaced recently is they invited me to return to Russia and speak again. (!)
I’m passing.
But this raises a curious question: when someone owes you money, what do you do?
From a Law of Attraction perspective, I got a match to my unconscious fears. At the time, I didn’t trust Russia. It was part of my childhood programming (1953 on) to fear them. When I was a child in the sixties, Russia was the enemy. I learned not to trust them. So I created an outer circumstance to match my inner conviction.
But now that I’ve cleared the beliefs in my unconscious about Russia, what do I do about them owing me money?
From a more Divine view of life (as expressed in my upcoming new audio program The Abundance Paradigm), the money they owe me will come to me – but maybe not from them.
In other words, a big mistake is needing a debt to be paid by the person who owes it. I wrote about this in my book The Attractor Factor. The money doesn’t need to come from that source. If you think it does, you’re setting yourself up for a battle with egos and disappointment.
This is not to say you shouldn’t ask for the money (as I did with Russia) but it is to say you live in an abundant universe and the money can come from someplace or someone else. Don’t waste your time letting a debt eat up your well-being.
In reality, money doesn’t come from people, it comes through them.
Get that: Money doesn’t come from people, it comes through people.
Life is a lot smoother and richer when you forgive and forget. After all, when you hold resentment, the only person that is hurt is you. The emotional pain is in you.
Again, don’t think this post is about Russia. It isn’t.
I found Russia fascinating and met people there I fell in love with and long to see again. I just won’t go back under the same circumstances. I’ve learned and moved on.
You can, too.
As David Hawkins says in his book, Transcending the Levels of Consciousness, “In the spiritual world the basic dictum is, ‘There are no justified resentments’.”
The more you release resentment and forgive, the faster you can Attract Money Now.
Ao Akua,
PS — Of course, if you owe money, pay it. Don’t fudge on your responsibilities by thinking the person you owe can get that money from somebody else. Doing so sends a message to the Universe, and your own unconscious mind, that you aren’t to be trusted. You can sabotage all your intentions by not honoring one agreement with yourself or another. In short, pay your debts. It’ll help you attract money now.
Coming soon: The Abundance Paradigm: Moving from the Law of Attraction to the Law of Creation.

Another amazing post Joe!
So true… you can’t go around hating people because they owe you money as it won’t take you anywhere but in the wrong direction in life..
And the answer usually lies inside you.
Thanks for the inspiration!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs, Andrea
Thank you for the comment, Andrea. Have a great day! – joe 🙂
Amazing article today Joe. I’m always thinking about this issue (not that it arises a lot) and whether it’s even worth stressing over.
Most of the time when I don’t ask or worry about money that’s owed to me it comes along quickly and smoothly.
Thx Joe! Somebody owes me money, and I was desperated to get it back… I´m going to meditate through your words… thx again, you are a great man!
PS: If you are intending to come to Brazil let me know that!
Could it be said that people who regularly buy lottery tickets in hopes of winning the “big one”, are trying to shortchange the Universe (and themselves), since by winning that money, they’re effectively taking it from all the others who played with the same goal?
I guess I’m asking a question about a value-focused mindset as opposed to a mooching-focused mindset.
I don’t think there’s a thing wrong with winning the lotto unless that’s the only thing someone does to attract money.
Hi, Joe!
The most of Russian hate irresponsibility about money. I know this because I live in Russia. And I’m ashamed of what you have been done so. And I am very sorry that you are faced with fraudsters.
But it seems that you are worthily coped with this nuisance. It means that spiritual marketing does work!
Forgiveness is a powerful thing to conceptualize, especially when one has made a habit of holding grudges, so much so it’s like second to breathing. Accepting these negative emotions, wholeheartedly, and then moving to a place of forgiveness, forgiving not only the “victimizer” but yourself too, puts you in a better feeling place. Another reason why I love reading your energy extensions, the put in me in a better feeling place (:
Thank you!
Maybe not getting paid is a gift. It gives you a reason to clean up on the issue and the subsequent benefits could be priceless.
I believe you are right. It also gave me a reason to teach a blog post lesson for myself and others.
Dear Joe,
How do i stop worrying about money? Tired of living pay check, to pay check. I get extra money and something comes up e.g. car repair and the money is gone. I don’t want to live in desperation and lack anymore! How can I feel abundant when I have only $17 until next payday? Help! You’d think being in my forties I’d have my act together, but I don’t. Feeling hopeless. Is there still hope for me? I love you! Dana
Hi Dana. I’ve been there. It sounds like you are dealing with belief issues. I cover this in my book Attract Money Now. (Free at http://www.attractmoneynow.com ) There is always hope and you can still turn things around. You might also consider Miracles Coaching. I know it costs money but you can at least sample it at http://www.miraclescoaching.com I’ll be sending you healing thoughts. Expect Miracles. love, joe
I’m sitting here crying, thank you for responding! You write a post about yourself and I right away talk about me! Hmmm, kind of selfish of me! I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you! May you be repaid tenfold for all your kindness! Thank you for the healing thoughts! Love, Dana
Ah, I needed to read this today. I had forgotten that the $$ owed me can come from another place and not from the person who actually owes it. My going to that person periodically to ask to be paid has been met with more excuses and promises that never manifest. The promises that never come true are quite grandiose and entertaining, but I think I’ll pass on that, too. Thanks for reminding me of this, Joe.
Joe,
I love this post! I’ve never thought of it that way and I thank you. I am now reassured that it will all work out either way!
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the post. Once again you gave me a great gift.
Your teachings helped me get out of debt. I stoped being behind to being ahead every month. Always some left over.
Now I need to clean my beliefs so I can go to the next level. I’m not in debt anymore, but I still pay rent and can’t afford a trip to the US to learn from you in person, for example.
Please, next time you clean, remember me. I’ve been doing my job, and wish you prosper even more and in every way.
Thanks,
Your friend/fan from Brazil,
Leno Pappis
The right intention is important. So is the right contractual agreement, and the right attorney. 🙂
You are so right. 🙂
Joe,
I had the most interesting experience and demonstration of the Law of Compensation today.
Over the past 2 days, I have been doing some work for a 95-year-old lady from Church…pulling weeds since she can no longer do it.
6 hours of work total, at $5/hour…I felt inspired to tell her to give the $30 to the church, as they’d been helping me a lot lately to stay afloat.
As we were driving away from the lady’s house, I explained to my wife what had transpired, and told her that money doesn’t always have to come from the place you’d expect it to come from.
I got the call today from a local friend who was making a last-minute move to Texas that he needed me to just go through whatever stuff he couldn’t get taken care of before the move, and could he please hire me to take it all out and keep what I want. He paid me $30 🙂
Dear Joe, Dear Friends,
I am so happy to read this post today:-) It’s about being open towards Universe (and cleaning, cleaning, OMG, so many things) and being GRATEFUL (no matter how ‘big’ or ‘small’ the gift is).
I have just been informed that my yesterday’s interview was OOK and I got the job that I am grateful for, although it is much below my capacities and ambition. I see it as a ‘divine opening’ for something even better that will come soon:-)
And I keep on reading Joe’s books, remaining optimistic and cleaning:-)
With Love,
Ana
Hello Joe,
I find it amazing that you are not coming from a place of ego and resentment on this one, but you are “letting go”. But you are also right about the Law of Attaction point of view that this experience came to you because you were brought up to expect something along those lines from Russia. Thanks for the post, I found it inspiring as usual.
Love:
Boianna
Dear Joe and friends on this blog
Just a quick thank you all for the postings, and reminding me of what is important, moment by moment.
As a friend reminded me the other week:
“Visualize.
Show up.
Happy dance”
Quite simple really!
Lots of love, and keep dancing… 🙂

Being a russian gal and owning a PR consulting and services business in US I can see your great point. Our programing can cause the future events to happen. I am glad you explain how we should be careful what we think about others and what ideas we put in our head..I grew up considering America fascinating and yes I still do..even though we all have been thru hardships in our lives..we get what we focus on..
I agree with Roman, I am very sorry you went through hardships.. Because money considered bad sign in Russia. Too much money means you did something wrong. We grew up thinking money was only for rich and people who do dirty deals…Things changed. Russia is growing and there are a lot of rich wealthy people who understand true abundance.. People in Russia will need rewiring of their brain for sure how to do business. They cannot be responsible and keep money flowing because the value of money is different in their eyes than ours here who understand principle of abundance..
What do you think Joe?
Tatyana Gann
Hi Tatyana. I saw people in Russia struggling with money and I saw them leaving the old programming and becoming ok with money. Like everywhere else, it is an awakening.
A great story and message Joe, and Tatyana follows up on it well as a Russian in the USA. I am British and have just come to Moscow to deal with financial planning for Russian citizens here !! so how fascinating is this for me to see your 2 blogs ? !
Yes, [email protected], here to deal with financial planning for Russian citizens here in Moscow !
Stephen
Oh, by the way, the Website is totally separate from and is nothing to do with the financial planning for individuals that i do. (You just asked for a website in the box ! )
Steve

Dear Joe,
Even though you wrote that this post isn’t about Russia, for me it is. And reading it made me blush and wanna cry. Partly because deep in my heart I’m still proud of my nation (Russian, no surprise) and it hurts when people get such an impression. But mostly because you’re not coming back! I understand, of course. I just wish you knew how much Russians need your great books, your inspired talks, your CD and DVD programs, and Miracles Coaching!!! Maybe even more than Americans because the general attitude is a lot more struggling to begin with.
Well, as your dedicated student, I guess I’ll try to SPEC you back))).
I’m sorry. Pleeeease forgive Russians. Thank you. I love you!
P.S. I’m a lawyer and I live in Russia. If you need any help, it would be my priceless pleasure)).
So true Joe. It’s like the quote, “If you loan a friend $20 and you never see them again, it was worth every penny.” When we let go of needing it to come from or through who we think it should it definitely limits the vast resourcefulness of the whole universe.
Two years ago I was cheated out of money, two computers, and trust in people. I had a choice 9don’t we all have them?) – go to the court and start the process of recovering my stuff, or concentrate on my school work. The choice was obvious – school was more important than going to court. Altogether, money and computers would be around plus/minus 1500.
Afterthe New Year’s I received a check for 5,000. From a very unusual source and absolutely unexpectedly. I knew I woulbe be given more from the very beginning. The trick was from the very beginning not to get/be angry. Who knows, if I were not occassionally angry, I might have gotten a bigger check. But I am grateful for five grants!
