The other day I stopped at the local gas station to fuel up my new all electric car.

No, that’s not a typo.

The Fisker Karma is all electric, but uses a gas generator to power the electric motor when the stored electricity runs out. So you have to put fuel in it sometimes. It’s possible to never use gas, if you drive locally (50 mile range per charge).

Don’t worry your head about it, though. That’s not the point of this post.

2012 Electric Fisker Karma

2012 Electric Fisker Karma

While there, a fellow asked me about the car. That’s not unusual, either.

Everywhere I drive the Karma, people stop and ask about it. I’ve had people film me on the highway while they were driving, follow me and ask me about the car, sit beside me at a traffic light and praise the car, and more. The Karma is a head turner. It was designed by the same fellow who designed the Aston Martin, so it has lines that turn heads.

But that’s not the point of this post, either.

This gentleman at the local petrol station said at one point he had fourteen cars and four airplanes.  He added, “You can’t take care of that many cars or planes, so I started giving them away.”

I could relate. I’ve given away four of my cars so far. And I didn’t start with as many as this stranger at the station.

The fellow added, “At some point you just stop buying so many things for yourself and you start helping other people.”

Exactly.

That’s the whole point. You have to take care of yourself first before you can help others in any big way.

Yes, of course you can help others right now, with whatever you have or can do. I’m talking about something greater than that, though. It’s one thing to help a neighbor move his outdoor grill. It’s quite another to give them a car.

I know a person who does volunteer work around the world. She said, “You have to have money to work for free.”

Exactly.

Money is essential to your ability to help others.

If you don’t have much right now, or always feel like you are just squeaking by, then it’s your beliefs about money and yourself that are causing the block.

Once you handle your money issues, you are free to attract money and direct it to where you feel it will do the most good.

You can call it Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, but any way you look at it, until you take care of your own survival needs and move into prosperity, you won’t easily be able to think about let alone actually help anyone else in a big way.

I’m not suggesting that you own a fleet of cars before you start giving and helping others. But I am suggesting that you make yourself strong first. Then you will have the means and the strength to help others.

I’ve often said and written that if you want to make a difference in the world, begin with one person: yourself.

Once you’ve changed your own life, it’ll be far easier to help others.

If you want the world to be a happier, healthier and more prosperous place, begin by contributing one happy, healthy and prosperous person to it: you.

How do you accomplish this?

Be good to yourself. Admit what you want for yourself. Take action to attract it to you. Get yourself financially secure.

One resource is my book, Attract Money Now.  It’s still free to read online right here.  (There’s a beautiful hardcover edition, that comes with a DVD of a fiery presentation by me on attracting money, right here.)

The book contains seven steps for attracting money now. One of those steps is giving. Again, you don’t have to give away a car, but giving money opens you to receive money.

Have you read the book?

Have you done the steps in the book?

Are you giving money to where you receive inspiration?

I think right now might be a good time to start.

I’m beginning the helping process by giving you the book, entirely for free.

What will you do next?

Are you ready to help you?

Ao Akua,

Joe

PS –  Last year I gave a presentation at the offices of my Miracles Coaching team where I explained seven ways to get clear of inner blocks. The group loved the steps. The event was filmed and later turned into a free course you can watch online. Go here to see it right now: http://www.joevitalecoach.com/campaigns/sevensteps/ I’m offering you the steps to freedom — free. It’s up to you to do them. Well?

Awesome Joe. My neighbor had his bow and arrow stolen out the back of his car while he was working. Someone had given me a similar bow and arrow that I had in my basement for years but I never used it.

So, I gave my neighbor the bow and arrow in my basement. We have many ways that we can give to others. We just have to be open to it.

This is a great post and so very true. For the past few years we have been struggling..I mean really struggling to put food on the table, but at the start of the year I decided (and have told everybody) that by the end of this year I am going to be wealthy and I am going to have everything I want.

The owners of the house we have been renting have decided to move back into the house, which forced us to find a tiny, old, very ugly apartment to move into. I really cried over this forced moved until it hit me there are several upsides to this move. This first being we are going to be able to save a small fortune monthly, which in turn will allow us to be able to afford to buy our neighbor’s house when it comes for sale later this year. I swear it is the only house I have ever seen in Denmark with a white picket fence, how great is that! Another upside is that because we are moving from 17 large rooms to six tiny ones we don’t have the room for all we own and have to get rid of it. We now have a project as a family to weed out everything we don’t ‘desperately need’ and donate these things where they are needed. Only two days into our big clean out and we have filled 22 boxes to give away so far.

The point is, even though we are not able to donate large amounts of money, we are lucky enough to have some very nice things we can give to others who really need them. We will be able to replace things later when we have room for them.

People can find small ways of helping others as they take care of themselves, but as in our situation, the big ways of helping others will come later. This small gesture makes us feel GOOD, which as selfish as it sounds, will help us receive more good things into our lives.

    Dear Joe,

Thanks for yet another inspiring post.

I just bought your ‘attract a new car’ program, which indeed goes beyond just a new car. i concerns everything one whishes for. I have just finished reading Neville’s “at your command” book and moved on to “how to manifest anything”…I am not even half-way through the program (haven’t heard the audios yet) and I have already started getting an excellent vibe! Indeed, our self limitting beleifs hold us back…so much more than one could think of!

    Thanks for being out there..!

    Best,

    Hi Joe
Any updates on the Ronn Motors The Scorpion car? I recall some years ago you seemed to be against electric cars in favor of hydrogen. I hope you can share with us the latest in an upcoming blog post.

I also heard you are no longer with the Rolls-Royce Phantom, please share what happened, it sounds like there is a great story there and a few lessons.

    • March 5, 2012 at 7:38 am

Ronn Motors has disappeared. Haven’t heard from them in years. I have two electric cars here and am not a raving fan yet. They have challenges. I appreciate where electric is trying to go, but it’s not there yet. the Rolls was simply time to move on. I let it go. Life is change, you know. 🙂

    I love this.
It is so freeing for people who always had the stigma that they have to help everyone before themselves. I really like the idea of do your best to help people but consider helping yourself first because that is the best way you can make a huge impact on people.
    Thanks Dr. Vitale

Great post! I earn $14.50 an hour working at a bakery, and I’ve learned how to use that money in a way that allows me to enjoy nice things and entertainment and donate all within my means and be without debt. You stated in one of your books about being comfortable as a hundred-dollaraire or a thousand-dollaraire while working your way up to becoming a millionaire. I used to make a lot more money in my previous career and was always so in debt, with alot of junk and no way to help people. Some uncomfortable life lessons have now made it possible to enjoy what I have and do what I can with what I have and still work towards something even greater.

That’s very true! I loved the book and am going to read it again,- I got the REAL one near my bed b/c I’m so smart 😉
Take care and keep rocking…or should I say rawking! That’s how rawies see it.

    Cheers from Eva

Thank you, Joe. After I read that, I let out a big breath I hand’t realized I’d been holding.

And thank you something you once said in an interview, about the Robert Collier Letter Book. You and Gary Halbert combined in an interesting way to get me to read that book earlier in life than I otherwise would have. The simple act of reading that book __on a consistent basis, all the way through__ worked a special magic on my understanding. Can’t wait till I put it into practice here son.

    Hello dear Joe Vitale!

I had a great desire to realize the dream with the help of the great MYSTERIES !!! I want to share with You the idea and get You to the Council in writing. I want to build a hotel on a promontory near the black sea in Russia. In this hotel I would like to organize meetings for the authors and the creators of the book “the SECRET” and ” MYSTERIES, “as well as hold meetings with all of the people who sincerely wish to realize their dreams and to make this all means. The hotel I want to build and for leisure guests and for their creative development. The hotel will be a lot of room for different specialists. These rooms are decorated and furnished in accordance with the professions for which work invited guests. The most interesting thing in this hotel will be a concert hall , where you can organize lectures and meetings with the readers of the books “the SECRET” and ” MYSTERIES “. I ask You to write me an advice, what should be done for the realization of my dreams? In advance I invite You to be our guest in this hotel, because now strongly believe that my dream will be realized with the help of the forces of attraction, faith and gratitude!!! As soon as I thought about this hotel I immediately introduced himself to the whole process of construction, I saw every room and to know what will this hotel, and also saw how the meeting will be held in this hotel. I’ve already learned how much will it cost the earth, what documents need to be making and what techniques are used for the construction, has prepared the schedules of construction and created a financial Fund for the attraction of investments in construction. Here is the number of cards MasterCard (deleted) on which I collect money for the construction. Each month I will make a report on the course of construction. I will be glad to Your support and advice in this matter! Thank you very much for Your contribution to the writing of articles on the methods of the realization of desires! Waiting for Your reply.

    Dear Joe,

I just cannot get enough of your inspirational wisdom. Your ideas just resonate with me. I have read your Attract Money Now book and love it. I have purchased your Clickbank Secret Code program and am working through that. I listen to your soothing words in the Clearing Audios every time I go for a walk.

This post of making sure you take care of yourself first is so right. When you worry too much about others before you are strong yourself, you really have nothing to give. If you are broke yourself, how do you give others any financial assistance? If you are unhealthy and exhausted, how do you aid someone who really needs it? If you live a chaotic lifestyle how do you do anything of value to anyone?

It just make so much sense to get your life together and spend as much time and energy as it takes to make it so. Then you can really help others.

I mean you can help with whatever you have right now. But what I mean is that the more you have the more you can help.

First of all, I was surprised to see that you responded to my comments. It has taken me a few days to get over the shock of it. I guess I always assumed that once a person like you climbs out of a very hopeless situation of poverty, homelessness and all what you have gone through, that you would not have the time or inclination to read these comments, so thank you for that.

Your story of what you went through to get to where you are now is one of the most inspirational ones I have read. There are a handful of authors, bloggers and writers who I am compelled to keep following due to their story and you are at the top of the list.

Please keep doing what you are doing. We all need more people like you to show us the way. Keep making as much as possible to not only give away but to enjoy. Every time I buy myself something I really want, I think of how you desribed prosperous spending. It is true, hoarding money and not ever enjoying it does not make a person feel good. It only makes you feel worse about your situation.
