The Abundance Manifesto: Secret #2

As I mentioned in an earlier post, over the next few weeks I’m going to reveal ten principles of abundance. I’m calling them The Abundance Manifesto. This is to help pave the way for my new audio program, The Abundance Paradigm: Moving from the Law of Attraction to the Law of Creation (coming out late October).

Again, since I’m sculpting these thoughts as they occur to me, please be forgiving in reviewing them. In fact, what I’d love is your opinion. Please comment on each to help me refine them all. The end result will be a useful set of insights for you, me, and everyone else.

Here’s the second one:

Thou shall worship passion.

The scarcity based view of the world worships money. The abundance view worships passion. When you focus on doing what you are passionate about, money will follow (as long as you practice the other nine secrets in The Abundance Manifesto). Passion refers to the joy you get from doing something you care about and feel inspired to do. Passion is the energy of Divine inspiration living through you. When you express passion, you express love. When you live from love, you are experiencing the abundant essence of the Universe.  Take your eyes off money and put them on following your bliss; on following your life calling or mission. That’s the direct road to abundance.

“Take your eyes off money and put them on following your bliss.” Sounds like beautiful advice. I can’t help but be jarred, however, by the contrast with the “Attract Money Now” exhortation in the ad just below this advice.

Hi Bob. When you read Attract Money Now, you will see that there is no conflict. Taking your eyes off money doesn’t mean you forget money; you simply don’t focus on it. Read the book. It’s free at http://www.attractmoneynow.com Enjoy. – joe

    Freeeeeeeeeee message!!
Following ones bliss, life calling or mission is good advice.
Life is the centre, not money. Money, which is a part of life’s energies, is attracted like a magnet to good consciousness, love, God, or the complete whole. When you go to the source, the externals will take care of themselves. Not the other way around. When you water a tree you water the roots, not just the leaves. Water the roots of the universal current, through quality living.
Some people are by nature money makers. Some are by nature attracted to other occupations. We need to be ourselves, do what we love and the money will follow.
Even animals and plants etc get all their needs met by nature, so this should not be a problem for humans.
True wealth is holistic. Spiritual and material. It includes good health and being properly situated spiritually.
If one follows their heart and experiences richness due to quality lifestyle, and consciousness, one will automatically attract all necessary forms of wealth, including money.
The focus of experiencing happiness due to following ones heart, is more important than trying to be happy, doing what is not ones nature with the desire for money.
Doing something you care about and feel inspired to do. Passion, joy. The energy of Divine inspiration living through you, expressing love and awareness. These are all good words for describing Thou shall worship passion, according to this definition. This is the type of passion Anthony Robbins would be referring to. There are other definitions of the word passion, which may not be as relevant or as glorious as the definition we are referring to.
Abundance is definitely a natural state.
These are some thoughts that came to mind, thanks.
    All the best!

      G~
thank you for sharing…good stuff! I especially like the part about watering the roots, not the leaves. The sharing of ideas is what continues to bring me to sites like this. I’ve found that sometimes I just need to hear the (same) message delivered in a different way.

The key word is “worship”. When you worship love, passion, joy, and connection, you energize and attract more things to love, be passionate about, enjoy, and connect with . . . including (but not limited to) money.
    Blessings,

    Hi Joe!

Thank you very much for this post and for writing the ‘Abundance Manifesto’.

I need help here: I really enjoy swimming, traveling, helping people, driving fast and other things I can spend my life doing it.

How do I get to know my real passion? Do I have to focus on only one thing? Is there an actual formula?

    Best Regards,
    Carlos.

    Dr. Joe:

I love this definition of passion. I have often struggled in my life to know what I was passionate about because my definition of passion meant something far more compelling than “joy”, “caring about”, or “inspired to do”. It was kind of like the difference between chinese fireworks and a sparkler.

An Anthony Robbins trainer once told me that you spark the passion in your life by living in uncertainty. Well, that doesn’t work for me long term because I crave certainty in my life. Plus, I wasn’t really sure how to maintain a life of uncertainty.

I do know what I feel inspired to do and what brings me joy. With this definition of passion, I can definitely move forward with passion and purpose in my life’s work.

Thank you so very much for this inspiring insight. It really will help me catalyze things that I was questioning, thinking maybe they weren’t my “true passion”.

    Live with passion and purpose,
    Vanessa

    Hello Joe,
It is one of the best advises ever given, follow your passion, not focussing on the money. When you do what you love, that draws people naturally to you;-)
I am a face-painter and several years ago i had an encounter i never will forget…
I drove by bike to a park in Amsterdam, and went to sit in the playgarden, so i could do facepainting, and scrape some money together, really struggling to make ends meet, at that time…
One afternoon no child was inclined to get painted, they were just playing, and i seemed invisible, despite painting myself;-(
A boy came to my table, he must have been about 10-11 yrs old.
He gazed at me and said: “…you are here for the money, are you not??? And it is not working, is it???”
It was not a question but a true statement! I was flabbergasted, and with some reluctancy, i admitted: “…yes, you are right, i’m here for making money…”
“Shall i help you to find children??” This time it was a question, a genuine offer for help.
“Yes, you can, but only if they want to and the parent agrees;-)”
He ran off, and almost dragged other kids to my table, and the waitingqueue had never been so long;-))

It dawned on me afterwards that children do not have a notion about money, so if am there for making money, i am not there because i want to give, but only to gain, and even something they don’t understand. Why should they bother???
When i am there because i LIKE to paint, LIKE to make them beautiful (or scary), then i have a queue in no time, with money flying in…;-))
Sometimes i make the mistake of being there for earning – nope, it does not work, i know, still an ‘occupational hazard’ i guess…
Thanks to a 10-yr old i understood the importance of following your passion, and then the money comes in automatically;-))
    Just wanted to share that!
BTW Joe, i really appreciate your work alot, and the very affordable products you make. Thanks;-)
    Kind regards.

Thank you for sharing your SELF to the world.

I’ve been reading your books for a while now and I’ve been attracted to your views/ideas since before the “The Secret” was out.

Just want like to clarify…I have seen some people worshipping passion, and yet they don’t seem to be getting enough to go by.
First example, this particular friend of mine is Very Passionate about helping people, so became a Social Worker but I see her struggling from month to month for financial stability. Why isn’t money flowing to her?

Second example, this friend of mine is a Fantastic Surgeon, earns “tons of money” and yet he hates the medical field. He wants to be a Singer which he has been passionate about since young. But, having heard him sing, I think he would struggle to fend for himself if ever he becomes a singer!

So, how exactly should “thou shall worship passion” apply in the above two scenarios?

Thank you again for sharing with the world.

    God Bless You and Yours

Good questions, Ram. The short answer is they have to use the other nine abundance secrets *with* the passion one. For example, if someone follows their passion but thinks money is evil, they won’t attract money, or keep it for very long. I explain all of this at length in my book Attract Money Now. you can read it online free at http://www.attractmoneynow.com – joe

My definition of worship is: When love becomes infinity it becomes worship and worship is only meant for God.

“You shall have no other gods before me” – The First Commandment – it may be added to it: even if it’s your passion.

God is within us all – to love a human is in fact a worship to God – supreme worship. And to hate a human (any human) must be the biggest sin.

My father’s passion is collecting rocks/mountain climbing etc, he’s a geologist. He’s a success but at what cost? At the cost of relationships?

One of my friends did some research on why some people in his circle of friends are wealthy and why some poor, a while back. He found out that there were 2 kinds of people in his circle who were rich: 1 those who were enjoying a deep and passionate relationship with their wives and 2. whose relationships sucked but were workaholics.

It’s just some food for thought.

    Thanks.

Following your bliss not money is definitely the answer. It is also the most difficult thing for people to do. Especially, when they are in a situation like I am where if I give up work to follow my bliss my family won’t eat. Yet it can still be done. Baby steps can still get you there. I still create beautiful things. I love making them, people love them when they see them. The more I do, the more people notice, and the more I want it to be what I do all the time. Small steps have helped me and I am there. I trust that soon it will be all that I do. Focusing on what one loves to do is the ONLY advice I give my child when she asks me about her future. Thank you for all that you do for others.

I have had a bit of trouble not focusing on the money since I am unemployed and child support has stopped. The more difficult issue I am working on is making my passion into income for my family.

It feels like a LOT of pressure, so I am trying to re-focus on the passion itself. I am finding clarity on quite a few of my passions: jewelry design, helping others, business, drawing, clothing design, and writing.

One of the answers to my passion/pressure/money issue that I’ve found is a Mini-Bazaar where I get to present my wares (jewelry design), present others’ wares (help others), and market the show (using my interests in business, writing, and drawing). My personal clothing designs will not play into this although I will be finding someone to take care of this aspect.

I’ve been bored and burned out for a number of years and I really believe producing this Mini-Bazaar will get me back on track and into the passion I’ve been missing.

You know, that felt really good verbalizing my goals. Thank you, Joe!

    Namaste!

I like to study the economy, but I don’t want to make money from that, but is it dangerous to study about money, too, if I don’t want to make money that way?

  19. October 8, 2010 at 1:29 am

It was only when I was reading your book “Attract Money Now” for at least the 3rd time I believe, it struck me what you really mean by “Worshiping Passion.”

On page 33 you’ve written: “When you understand that money is neutral and simply an agreed-upon exchange of value, you will attract money into your life right away”

The problem is people run after money, it’s wrong. They should run after their passion. Why? Because it is only after running after your passion you can “give the most value of your services” and in return earn more money.

I’m sorry that I took literary meaning of “worship” in my earlier comment. But in a sort of sense it was good as it sprouted a couple of my blog posts on worship.

    Thank you very much.

Well said Joe. I received them all along, however, I didn’t read them. Today, I started reading them from first post. Yes, you are 110% correct about where we focus. I am planning for India trip (4 tickets) and the expense (focus on money side), however, I do have the other aspect of showing India to my children and other details. Yes, money will come and go, however, time will not. So, I will go with the plans. May be that’s the reason, I didn’t read these posts until now.
    Thank you for your guidance.

I love you too, passion is my understanding of life. When we can see this and practise the joy of passion everyday we will have no need for money. It will come in a form of passion , love, and bliss. Babies have this in their eyes, so bright and hugh. I am awe struck when I feel it. With all that you give you ground me. Thank you!
