Attracting Cars: Abundance or Scarcity?

The other day someone twittered a note to me asking —

“Why do you need 7 cars? Why not sell one and give the money to a homeless shelter?”

I found the question revealing.

The person asking the question assumes it’s an either-or world; either you buy the car or you give the money for it away to some good cause.

Sounds logical, doesn’t it?

Within that kind of thinking, it is logical.

But that’s scarcity thinking.

That’s thinking there isn’t enough.

Is that actual reality?

Abundance thinking, on the other hand, would say that you can do both; you can buy the car and you can donate money to the homeless.

But most people don’t see this.

They don’t see it because they’re stuck in their paradigm (or mindset) and don’t know it.

They’re seeing the world through their mental “box of beliefs.”

This isn’t their fault.

That’s how they were programmed.

I totally understand it.

I was once broke, struggling, desperate, and unhappy.

In those days I would have thought the same thing: there isn’t enough to go around.

But was that actually true?

Was that reality?

It was real and true only to the extent that I lived from the mindset that believed it.

According to the “box of beliefs” in my head at that time in my life, the world looked bleak.

But I’ve transcended that thinking.

Today I live from The Abundance Paradigm.

In other words, today I know I can have the cars *and* I can contribute just as much money or more to causes I believe in.

I’m living this. I’ve given money to friends to help them with the IRS or a struggling business; I’ve given money to causes and people I believe in, including complete strangers; I’ve donated to homeless shelters and to a group to end poverty; I’ve bought cars for family members; I’ve even funded a bold movement to end homelessness.

And I buy a car for myself when I feel inspired to do so.

How is this possible?

What’s the difference?

My thinking.

Yes, I have more money now, too, but that’s also a result of leaving scarcity thinking and moving into abundance thinking.

But I didn’t get to this new paradigm overnight.

It took decades of reading, thinking, trying, and more.

It wasn’t until I got a coach that I began to have the faster breakthroughs. From there, life became one of magic and miracles.

Which is why I created Joe Vitale’s Miracles Coaching ®.

I don’t want you to spend decades spinning your wheels; I want you to have results ASAP.

    Hi Joe,

The funniest thing is that most of the people with this type of programming, that have a problem with your abundance, are also the ones that don’t give a lot to charity because they can’t afford to. They also know, although maybe only subconsciously, that they are not contributing enough to those “in need”, so they project that onto you.

In any case, it is clear that this sort of scarcity thinking isn’t beneficial to anyone. As soon as an individual figures this out, he or she can cease to be a part of the problem and start being a part of the solution.

    Great post, Joe!

    All the best,

    Josip Barbaric

    Hi Dr. Vitale,

It’s a great post but I do have some differences with your point of view.

When we tread this illuminated path then I believe everything that happens to us is a signal from The Divine. I consider that tweet from someone as a signal that “The System” wants to communicate something to you.

Here’s a quote from Florence Shinn from the excellent book “Game of Life”:

“Money is God in manifestation, as freedom from want and limitation, but it must be always kept in circulation and put to right uses. Hoarding and saving react with grim vengeance.”

You said you have 9 cars there’s nothing wrong with that. A person can have more than 50 cars but the question is: Are you using those 9 cars?

You’re not using those 9 cars as you said: “But it’s not about the cars. I work at home and rarely drive anywhere.”

    That’s the real problem.

Yes I agree you can contribute as much money and more to the causes you believe in, but it’s not about contribution, it’s about “hoarding.”

Do you really need 9 cars for your life or just 1 or 2 cars can be sufficient for your and your family’s needs? What to do of the rest of the money? Instead of bringing smile to your own lips you can use that same money to materialize new business ideas to give jobs, to illuminate minds and to bring smiles to the lips of hundreds or thousands of people…

Thank you for the thought. It’s not about “need” at all. Need is scarcity thinking. Many collectors have hundreds of cars that just sit. But they are sitting as works of art sit: being appreciated for what they are. I read Shinn thirty years ago. I totally agree with her. But she was talking about money, not cars. Money has to circulate. Cars just have to be appreciated. I wrote about all this in my book, Attract Money Now. Thanks for stopping by. – joe

    Absolutely.

The poor like to think “or” and the rich like to think “and”.

Why should be poor but happy if you can be rich *and* happy?

Why should be slowly but sure if you can be fast *and* sure?

A great reminder on abundance, Joe.

Can you please tell where to find a miracle coach here in Italy, Rome?

I really need help, I don’t know what to do anymore and I’m so bogged down in my situation that I’m not able to put into practice all the things I’ve read about the Law of Attraction and Ho’oponopono…

    I have a comment. I Understand why
Joe has nine cars. The more i read here
the more i understand. Do You understand, that by buying those nine
cars or whatever he desires, he IS
contributing to a LOT of people in a
Lot of different ways?My last comment
is old and a cliche, however, if Joe gives
you a fish he feeds you for a day, BUT
if he teaches you to fish, hes feeding
you forever, then YOU can teach others
to fish.Pay attention, thats what hes up
    to.

I dont see Joe as hoarding. I think hes
a good circulator. He shares his knowledge, again with those nine cars
a lot of money gets “circulated”
think about it.Even if they just sit.
A lot of money went into those purchases and is now out there”circulating” round and round and
round she goes where she stops who knows?

One more thing ive been thinking about. We ll say Joe sells a million
copies of his books. Does he get ALL
the money from these book sales?
No. He gets his share, which he pays
his taxes ect on. The publisher gets his
share, the employees get their share,
and so forth. Does that sound like hoarding?

  9. September 28, 2010 at 8:13 pm

    Father,

I would never have replied to this thread again if you haven’t posted 3 messages to defend your position. Let me clear my point of view by mentioning the rest of what Florence Shinn mentions in her book about hoarding:

For example: I knew the case of a very rich woman, who hoarded her income. She rarely gave anything away, but bought and bought and bought things for herself.

She was very fond of necklaces, and a friend once asked her how many she possessed. She replied, “Sixty-seven.” She bought them and put them away, carefully wrapped in tissue paper. Had she used the necklaces it would have been quite legitimate, but she was
violating “the law of use.” Her closets were filled with clothes she never wore, and jewels which never saw the light.”

Yes I agree Dr. Vitale is very generous and gives so much money in charity etc BUT it’s **not about money** it’s about violating the “Law of Use.”

I have no objection in purchasing even a single painting of Rembrandt or Picasso etc that may cost even more than all these cars because then this purchase won’t violate this law.

P.S. Here is the link to Florence Shinn’s online book: http://www.sacred-texts.com/nth/shinn/gol/index.htm
    This incident in under “Love.”

Let’s expand our mind and think more abundantly. There are other “uses” for a car other than driving it. Only eight miles from my home there is a Tucker car that has one mile on it. No one drives it. Ever. It’s worth well over one million dollars. Recently a 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante Coupe sold for a record $7.92 million. It, too, just sat. If you think the only “use” of a car is driving it, you’re missing the more abundant view of the world. I actually do drive my cars, just not far or often. I consider them investments. Just food for thought as I drive off in one of my wheels. – joe 🙂

      • October 12, 2010 at 11:37 pm

I now totally agree to your point of view Dr. Vitale and accept my mistake. Yes I was wrong in my viewpoint and you were right in your thinking of being more abundant.

I had discussion with some friends on the above issue. The conclusion is; it is totally acceptable even if you keep 50 cars and you don’t drive them. Now there are 2 things to consider here.

        1. You keep these cars for use. In that case you have to use them regularly. Otherwise you violate the law of use. You don’t need to pay anything in charity to keep them.

        2. You keep these cars as investments. Now you don’t need to drive any of these cars on regular basis but you need to give a yearly amount in charity.

In Islam it is called obligatory charity (zakat) and is only applicable to things that are not in use like extra cars, extra jewelery, extra houses etc.It is 2.5% of the total amount of investment.

I am still learning and thanks for clearing a big issue for me. I agree to my mistake and hope you will forgive me.

        Thanks.

Exactly, abundance is not to choose one from two, but one plus one.

You gave me a important message: for current job, if i put love in it, i can do a very good teacher and a distributor.

Thank you for your words Joe, you really had open my eyes.
This is something that I have being thinking for a while.

I’m really into design furniture, I like them and I appreciate them as for that they are… Art. I always felt bad when i wanted to buy them because of their price, and the same scarcity thinking that you had mention before; I always had the dilemma between helping with that money or getting something for my self. Now i know that I can do both.

Thank you Thank you Thank you.

The Universe always but in our hands the information that we need when we are ready of it. 🙂

    Hi Joe,

Thank you for your post. It is really easy for people to judge those who are rich. It is wonderful that you support many different worthy causes. One of my highest joys is supporting groups like World Vision. As someone once wrote, “We make a living by what we earn; We make a life by what we give.”

You are very right, Dr. Vitale. The universe is full of abundance. And nothing will ever get finished in it. Whatever amount of something you ask from it, you’ll get. It’ll never say “Okay buddy, this time you were late so it got finished. Better luck next time when the universe is recreated”. It will rather say “Sure. Why not? Anything else :)?”.

Have a great day, Dr. Vitale :).

I just read At Your Command by Neville and have listened to your attract a car calls. AWESOME as usual. Every Monday I have a Law of Attraction mastermind meetup. Everyone is asking me how do I know when I am clear, how do I get to a point where I am truly in the consciousness of having “it” now. My guess is that they want to know how they will feel, or should feel. Joe, how would you answer this question.

    Thanks

From my perspective it’s a MAN’s thing to love cars. Some women collect handbags or shoes. Me – my passion is buying books.

Also I would hazard another guess – it’s the LITTLE BOY in Joe who loves cars…something from his early childhood is triggering his passion – am I right Joe?

    • October 2, 2010 at 11:26 am

Maybe, but my entire family says I never had an interest in cars as a child or even a young adult.

When you open your door one afternoon looking for the mail and it hasn’t come, you look up and down the street, and suddenly your eyes stop where you park your car and it flashes in front of your eyes, but the space is empty, you think, ‘Oh, my God, someone stole my car!’

About to call the police, you realize… ‘NO!!! it was repoed!’

Two weeks you pour (read pray) over Craig’s list and town flyers, realizing they want cash for anything up to $3999, and for credit ANYONE can qualify for regardless of past credit IF you can show $1600 a month income, looking for a $100 car because that is the extent of your life savings, and find you’re about $1000 short.

Then God puts you in the right place at the right time… in front of your house cleaning the cracks in your sidewalk (??? what was I thinking???) when neighbor comes home with a NEW car. You see her talking to her next door neighbor and you walk down there.

‘Who got a new car?’ you ask and the one named Kay says, ‘I did!’ I look past her pretty red Ford Focus to the white car behind it. ‘What are you going to do with that one?’ I ask… ‘Well, I thought I’d donate it….’

She settled on $100 when I was offering it as a down payment. End of story… except we are both happy with our new cars!

Mine is PAID IN FULL… and even Kay said, ‘They ain’t gonna repo that!’

Joe, this just happened to me in August. The above is from my NOTES on Facebook. My car is a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with 79,000 miles on it!

    Hello Joe

I’ve been reading the Key, and it made me think about my thinking.Thank you for giving me insight and tools to delve deeper and live richer(in the richest sense of the word).

Now, here are my thoughts on those cars. It’s not so much about the cars, but what they represent too.

I think seeing those nine cars trigger feelings of love and gratitude for the Source that lovingly granted them, which puts you in a happy state.

It’s like how a gift or letter from a loved one (physical object) makes you happy because it’s a physical manifestation of love.Tangible proof of the spiritual.

If the gifts or cars or letters were to disappear or be taken from you,you would be okay because the love doesn’t disappear with the object, the object merely represents the love. You are grateful but not attached to them because you know where the true value lies : the feeling of bliss in your heart.

Holding on to that bliss, that puts you in an optimum state to live your joy and make world a better experience for as many people who care to listen, is the most important thing.

And if having those those cars helps puts you in that state, fuels you, doesn’t transgress on the rights of others in any way- then by all means, enjoy them, the love was always yours.

It’s funny…as long as you dont get attached to something, it’s yours for to enjoy for as long as you like?
