How to Survive the End of the World Later This Month

I wasn’t going to mention it but several people — especially fans in Russia, Poland, Italy and Peru — have asked me about the “end of the world” later this month, scheduled for December 21st. Take it or leave it, here’s what I think:

New book February 2013

New book February 2013

  • My next book is titled Faith. It will be released February 2013. If I really worried about the future, and thought you wouldn’t be here to go buy my new book, I wouldn’t bother writing it.
  • I’m going back into the studio later this month, to record my fifth music album. If I thought the world would end a few days later, why would I do it?
  • Daniel Barrett and I have a book coming out next year, titled The Remembering Process. If we didn’t feel there would be a next year, would we (or the publisher) release the book?
  • And I’m promoting yet another book in 2013 on how to end homelessness and poverty, titled Y.E.S.! Again, I must believe in the future to release this book, too.
Remembering the future past...

Remembering the future past...

Obviously, I believe there’s a future ahead of us.

But how can I think that when the Mayans allegedly said December 21st is “game over” day?

Back in the late 1990s, I became dismayed when people I respected began to worry about Y2K, the computer malfunction that was going to cause Armageddon, or at least a few bad nights. I knew at the time the fear was ridiculous.

How did I know? I didn’t. Not in any logical way. But nothing about it made sense. It sounded like yet another doomsday prediction, created and passed along by people being victims to their own mind’s paranoia.

Of course, Y2K came and went, and we’re still here.

See PS below for "End of World" Sale

See PS below for "End of World" Sale

Throughout history there have been predictions about the end of the world.

None of them have ever occurred.

None.

For example, here are a few non-religious ones (the religious doomsday predictions would take forever to list, which seems rather ironic, as they don’t claim we have forever) –

Meteorologist Albert Porta predicted the conjunction of 6 planets would generate a magnetic current that would cause the sun to explode and engulf the earth on December 19, 1919.

Didn’t happen.

British theologian and mathematician William Whitson predicted a great flood similar to Noah’s for October 13, 1736.

Didn’t happen.

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn predicted the end of the world in 2010.

Didn’t happen.

Even the Mayans didn’t have a track record of success.

According to the book, History’s Worst Predictions, by Eric Chaline —

“The truth is that even by the standards of ancient peoples, the Maya were technologically backward. They lacked the wheel, the arch, the plough and domesticated animals; they fought each other and ruined their environment. Did the Maya foresee their own collapse in the ninth century or the Spanish invasion in the 16th? Or have cataclysmic events happened on key dates in their future-oriented calendar? No.”

And if you want even harder evidence about the “end of the world” later this month, here’s what NASA says on their official website:

“For any claims of disaster or dramatic changes in 2012, where is the science? Where is the evidence? There is none, and for all the fictional assertions, whether they are made in books, movies, documentaries or over the Internet, we cannot change that simple fact. There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012.”

So, what is the logical and intuitive best guess for December 21st?

How to end poverty in 2013

How to end poverty in 2013

It’ll be a day like any other day.

But let’s not give up our fear just yet. Maybe we can learn something here.

Did the Mayans have something else to tell us about the December 21st date?

According to some interpretations of Mayan prophesy, December 21st will mark the end of “the dark cycle and the start of the Cycle of Light:” an era of new thought that incorporates a blending of beliefs from different cultures.

Doesn’t sound like the end of the world to me at all.

But the truth is, I doubt even the “light cycle” will come into being.

Why not?

Because it’s already here.

Thinking there is a before and after is what the mind likes to create to structure life experience. But life isn’t black and white. It’s more like a rainbow. And it’s all happening at once, right now, whether you think it is or not.

Right now someone is feeling hate….Right now someone is feeling love….Right now someone is feeling like a victim…Right now someone is becoming enlightened…

And so it goes.

The Dark is here. So is the Light.

It’ll be the same on December 21st.

Welcome to Planet Earth.

Our human nature is such that we let our minds chase us up trees and down streets, even when nothing is chasing us. That’s the nature of our minds.  It is programmed to look for danger, then to protect us from it. The thing is, it perceives danger in any unknown. The future is unknown. So of course it will fear it.

The Future Is Better Than You Think

The Future Is Better Than You Think

The Mayans didn’t predict the end of the world. Not at all. They didn’t really predict anything. As one friend said, they simply stopped making calendars.  That’s it. There is no more significance to the date than that.

None.

Here’s my disclaimer and advice:

Should December 21st come around and you and I are gone, then you won’t know the fear-based prediction was right and my faith-based one was wrong. We’ll be dead. Curtain down. Music over. Exit vaporized.

On the other hand, if December 21st comes around and you haven’t paid your rent or stocked your frig, thinking you wouldn’t need to, you may find yourself on the streets. That’s a far harsher reality than fearing the future. Been there. Done that.

You best assume the world will continue and proceed as usual, except with more attention to your intuition and your passion, as it is your spiritual compass to better times.

If nothing else, use all this focus on “end times” as a time to awaken. Notice your thoughts, your mindset, your habits, and your fears, and focus on how you would like things to be. Here’s your chance to wake up.

Finally, here’s my bottom line thought on all this:

It seems to me that doomsday predictors aren’t very bright. The odds are stacked against them. None of them have ever come true. Ever. It’d be far wiser to predict the world continuing. So that’s my prediction: The world will generally continue as it is, slowly getting better and better, with a nice upward curve reflecting its spiritual growth.  I also predict the sun will shine and the moon will rise. My predictions are never wrong, either. I’m so psychic, I know you’re reading this. So there.

I suggest you get up and do the thing you would do if you were full of power and faith, and believed in tomorrow. And do it today. Right now.

See you later this month.

And next.

Ao Akua,

Joe

Thank you, Joe. I vote for awakening on 12/21. The world as we know it will end…. and there will be peace forever. No more violence, no more wars, no more fighting. Only love and understanding and tolerance.
I laugh every time I see Y2K… am reminded of an Animanics episode, where the Animaniacs solve the Y2K problem. The cartoon goes on, and in the end the solution was: Mondak, Tuesdak, Wednesdak…..:D

    Hi Joe,

I have a nice story about the run up to the end of the world.

Details were sent earlier although I have not had a response.

    Yours ay,

PS How often do we tell those feelings in the dumps “It’s not the end of the world”? Curious phrase I guess.

    Hello Joe,
Another wonderful post. I look forward to your new books. I wanted to mention the incredible TED videos by Hans Rosling, taking world statistics, inventions, and ideologies and graphically representing how the world is actually improving far more than the general understanding as presented through most media channels.

Yes, none of any such predictions happened before. Some of who actually ‘invented’ them have either got insane or committed suicide.
Life is worth living, however it is shaped now, the future must be much, much better if they live by your teaching 😉

    Dear Dr Joe,

I see you have no belief at all regarding the doomsday prophecy of December 21 or the spiritual awakening expected on that date.

However, you believe in Ho’oponopono cleaning and one of the famous ho’oponopono teacher, Mrs Mabel Katz do believe that changes are expected on that.

She even talks about earth getting back to a new heaven.

May be Mrs Katz have done more cleaning than you and is able to see the changes of December 21 while you remain unconscious of the events of that date. Here is the article posted on her website:

Ho’oponopono and the changes of 2012 – NEW

Ho’oponopono and the changes of 2012Are you ready for 2012? How many people have asked you questions like: What do you think will happen? Do you believe it will be the end of the world? Are you afraid?

We are so stubborn. We insist on always worrying about the future instead of enjoying the present. We miss many opportunities and blessings as a result of our constant regretting the past or worrying about the future.

I am going to ask you something different: Have you noticed that 2012 is already here?

Yes, the changes are here and they are not going anywhere. The first tsunami was the economic crisis, but because we didn’t see the water, we didn’t realize it.

The tsunamis have started and will continue. All kind of tsunamis are coming: social, political, economical, emotional and natural.

Now it all depends on you and the choices you make: Will you remain arrogant, thinking you know better and continue doing the same things you used to do?

The old ways of doing and thinking have become obsolete. Either you open your mind and become flexible or you will be swept away by one of the next tsunamis. There is nothing wrong with that. It is just your decision. You have free choice.

I wonder, after everything we have gone through, wouldn’t you like to stay and see how the Earth becomes a paradise once more? I know I do.

Remember the story of creation Dr. Ihaleakalá told me and that I shared with you in my first book The Easiest Way? He said:

When God created the Earth and put Adam and Eve here, he told them that this was paradise and that they didn’t have to worry about anything, that He would provide them with everything they needed. He also told them that He would give them a gift, the opportunity to choose, to make their own decisions, that He would give them the gift of free will. And so, He created the apple tree. He told them, “This is called “thinking.” You do not need it. I can provide everything for you. You should not worry, but you can choose to stay with me or to take your own path.”

I would like to make it clear that the problem was not the eating of the apple. The problem was failing to take responsibility and saying, “I’m sorry.” When God asked, Adam said “She made me do it.” And so this is how Adam had to go in search of his first job. Just like Adam, we are always biting the apple. We always think that we know best. We do not realize that there is another way, that there is an easier way.

Ho’oponopono is about choice. You cannot serve two Masters. You either let go (The easiest way) and allow inspiration (God/Universe) to guide you or you keep replaying old memories and do it on your own (the hardest way). There are only two possibilities; that is it. Either you come from inspiration or your old replayed memories.

Ho’oponopono is about allowing God to guide you. As long as you are doing the cleaning (asking for help and giving permission) you don’t need to worry about anything. You will be guided and protected and in the flow that will put you in the right place, at the right time, with the right people.

Everything is in perfect order. Just let go of your old beliefs, opinions and judgments and allow the flow to take you. Become more humble and say, “I don’t know.”

These are very exciting and amazing times. They require us to go through the dark in order to see the light. It is up to us how easy or difficult we want the journey to be.

Become a child again. It is time to go back HOME (Paradise), be ourselves , and do it God’s way instead of our way.

The only question then is: are you going to travel first class or do you prefer to swim? You choose.

    • December 2, 2012 at 6:36 am

Sagar, what I wrote and what my dear friend Mabel wrote are almost identical in prediction. She even writes, “Yes, the changes are here and they are not going anywhere.” I said virtually the same thing. You might want to go back and actually read my post. Thank you.

    Hi Joe,

I love your article,by the way, I will be 59 the day after you. I remember before Y2k a guy in my state got a hold of a bazooka, one of my friends spent SIX FIGURE in building a bunker, and buying guns. And today I see some people making non-sense again, now I believe like you that there are changes happening, and they started years ago, and these are were people are becoming more enlighted. Old religion mindsets eventually will disappear to a real spiritual thinking that IS NOT connected at all with religion. Now, because it is a new era of enlightenment does not mean that EVERYBODY will be benefit, just the seekers, and this is in any area, not only at the personal and spiritual level but in sciences, politics, economy and business. The end of the world and the beginning of a new will happen mostly inside us, not outside, although a lot of events outside will be moving us to find who we really are inside…anyway,… happy birthday in advance

Thanks so much for the clarity of thought about the doomsday predictions. I, too, am looking forward to reality looking up. I’ve been watching the Apocalypse series on H2 for amusement mainly and I cannot take what the predictors claim seriously. I think that the human species is growing up, some of us more quickly than others, and as we become more aware of our connection to one another, we do, indeed, hurt ourselves when we hurt others.

I have had similar views about all this end of the world hype. I believe however that the Mayans are an amazing civilisation and they are very right that we are no entering a collective enlightened phase. That is thanks to leaders like yourself Joe. The Secret led the way forward and got people talking about the powers of positive thinking. Now we can all try out the Law Of Attraction in a positive way and have faith and become creative creators instead of competitive ones.
Those of us who believe in a better future can lead and teach those who dont, the pesimistic ones, so that we can become an advanced society. It really is a matter of each of us sharing so that we all have the basic necessities and that those who find it hard to make a living for themselves are helped by those who find it easier.

Thank you very much! I tend to agree with you- the world probably isn’t going to experience any kind of mass enlightening on December 21 or 22, and it won’t end- either. I am subscribed to several self-help- enlightenment websites, and- some of them are sending me messages asking me how I’m going to prepare for December 21- like I have to start hoarding food or something. Other sites are telling me that there is going to be some massive worldwide enlightenment that occurs- starting on this date and extending into the future. I’d like to believe that this one is true, but I’m pretty skeptical. I’m going to move through daily life and see what happens.

I truly believe we shall all be fine and the world is getting better everyday- the positive changes may be little but more and more people are coming to understand the law of attraction and its main principles; Love, care and understanding

Good article; very fun to read. I’ve been quite entertained by all the talk of the world ending. I thought it would get to be “too much” and I’d get sick of hearing about it,but it’s still fun and enjoyable to talk and hear about.

  33. December 15, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Unlike Paul Akpomukai above I don’t believe the world is getting better, I think man is the same as he always was, he has yet to be made civilized. As long as man wars with each other, he is but a animal, be it a human one.
In my life time I’ve hear the world was going to end three or four times. For me personlly it can never be true for my belief is in the words of Jesus, who said “No one knows the day that all will end, not the angels, nor the son of man, only God knows”

    • May 12, 2013 at 5:11 am

Mike, first of all who’s fault is it that animalistic men (read barbarians) have not developed into civilized men? And are still acting like if we are living in the Stone Age?

Secondly you say you believe the word of Jesus, note: not everybody does..! People with the Jewish religion have a very different outlook on this matter you are describing, especially with the “story” of Jesus! and so do other religions as well..!

And by the way regardless of religion, why would any sane positive minded person want to occupy their minds with when the world is coming to an end, anyway..?

I’m an optimistic realist; I see things how they could become “positive” knowing damn well how they are right now! I know that the world is far from the beauty many hope it should be today after our much too neglected achieved evolution… perhaps we should recall the plethora of beautiful speeches filled with wisdom and deep philosophy from the best president the world ever knew; John Fitzgerald Kennedy. He knew the world wasn’t a beautiful place either, yet still he tried to make it so for all people in all the corners of the world…

      Have a nice day

With respect there are a few corrections to this post that I feel compelled to address. I have lived in the Mayan Riviera off and on for the past 4 years and have many good friends and co workers who are Mayan. The Mayans did NOT believe that it was “game over” on December 21st 2012. That is the Hollywood version. My love for this people makes me hurt for their misrepresentation and repression which is why I am taking a moment to speak for them here. The Mayan calendar shows that 2012 will be the beginning of a new age, not the end of the world. Dec 21st marks the beginning of a higher energy vibration on earth and a gathering of light workers. They believe in hope for humanity and practice meditation and temezcal to connect with the universe and each other in the name of peace and harmony. They are some of the most enlightened souls I’ve met by their very nature. Let’s please give them and their history the respect it deserves. Love.
